DIRTY DIESEL
Thanks very much Phil and Larry for those Platform 1/3 pictures. I never saw the crane-ing from the prom. Happy memories however of my second wedding reception in that coach, and the model railway shops. Merf. Merf, Ronnie was the T4 man that day as I was in the box (I think) when the coach & loco was being lifted in. I know I was on duty the night Platform 3 opened as I was brought a pint to the box!!!! So many fond memories of Colwyn Bay goods yard when my Grandad use to take me to watch the trains shunt just above the tunnel mouth, to a four year old seeing the wagons come out of the tunnel being gravity shunted was just brilliant & frightening when a class 40 pop out with the noise & whistling only a few feet below your feet. PGH thanks for posting. Stu

br2975
i] "Where are you" [/i]she asked. When I said Anglesey, all I got was "Idiot!" If you had said "Holyhead" the response would probably have not been "idiot" but "certifiable !"
RMweb Gold 46444 Posted August 11, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 11, 2015 (edited) Hi Phillip, I've only just caught up with this thread and I'll reiterate what others have said in these are a wonderful selection of photographs with a lovely narrative to go with them. I think these photos certainly deserve to be published in a book for wider audience to see. Thanks for taking the time to post them. Cheers, Mark Edited August 11, 2015 by 46444
WickhamofWare
PGH, do you have a date for the picture of the Wickham Trolley please, as I am trying to confirm which one it is. There were two different ones based on the railway but never together, and thankfully I have the dates for both of them.

There were two different ones based on the railway but never together, and thankfully I have the dates for both of them. I assume you mean the Wickham on Holyhead Breakwater shown in Post #188 as this is the only one illustrated in this thread. The photo was taken in September 1967, so it must be TR33 Wickham 7692. This was scrapped in April 1975 and replaced by TR23 Wickham 7516.
Focalplane
8.07BB.jpg Southbound goods train arriving at Bewdley 4175 is featured on Philip Hawkins' painting "Summer Saturday at Snow Hill", but running bunker first with a Birmingham Division B Set onto Platform 5. Just discovered these photos - very nostalgic to a onetime Oswestry lad! Thanks, Paul

An additional pannier tank has been added to assist 4679 with the southbound train up the bank to Torpantau as it waits in the loop to cross a northbound Brecon train. Super atmospheric pictures. Noting the dates, I remember the winters of 1962-3 and 1963-4 being particularly hard - was either year that rare thing, a white Christmas?
RMweb Premium Michael Edge Posted December 16, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 16, 2020 Not quite where I lived then in St Helens but it did snow on Boxing Day - and then stayed until April. In January 1963 I cycled to Sheffield via the Snake, it had just been ploughed out and all we could see was 10ft high wall of snow on each side of us.
