Retro_man
Does anyone know if the Hornby R2977XS Class 08 shunter is supposed to have brake squeal? A customer of mine has just purchased one and has asked the question as there are videos on-line of Hornby Class 08s with brake squeal and his does not have it. I do not have any more of the same model here to test and as we are located in Canada and 600 km apart, any on-line advice we can get is greatly appreciated :-) Steve Model Railway Imports

However depending on the CV setting it may only be audible when stopping quickly from higher speed steps - ie from 16 of 128 to 0. If you come to a stop very slowly, then brake squeal is not audible. This can be adjusted via CV64 - default value as supplied from Hornby = 7. Reducing the value of CV64 to 1 - brake squeal will then be audible when stopping from slow speed - ie around step 3 of 128, the down side is then when stopping from a higher speed the brake squeal will then start sooner and last longer. Adjust the value of CV 64 between 1 and 7 to get the results that suit the driving style etc. I should perhaps add, I don't have a R2977XS, but a R2902XS (EWS 08) which is very similar. HTH Ken Hi Ken, Thanks for your help. We are going to try a decoder reset and if that doesn't do it, then we will try your suggestion. The R2977XS comes with instructions for Loksound V4.0 and this is what it appears to be fitted with as the functions are slightly different - no F9 notch down. Best wishes for the New Year, Steve

Best wishes for the New Year, Steve If fitted with a Loksound V4 there are two CV's that affect the braking sound : CV 64 + CV 65 CV4 also has to be set to 20 or above. I have a Lok4 fitted R/F Europa 08 and after testing with default settings, the brake sound is only audible when stopping from SS 7/8 of 128 and above, below that it's not heard This can be altered via CV 64 + CV65 - as per the Lok V4 manual - http://www.esu.eu/en/downloads/instruction-manuals/digital-decoders/ See this thread also :http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/68122-braking-sound-loksound-v4/ Have a Good New Year Cheers Ken
