Over in the Czech Republic at the moment. Due to go up to Prague at the end of the week. Could get messy.....

Best intentions are for some rolling stock but I feel a Bardotka coming on....

Good rate of exchange. 34 Kc to the £.....

Oh dear.

Yes exchange rate is good at the moment. Still not got to 45kc to the pound as it was back in 2004/5.

Good luck with the visits to the model shops.

Ian

Crikey Ian. That would be messy!!!!

Will decide where we are going closer to the time. We have nearly three weeks here so plenty of time.

Rob.

I know. Hoping to balance visits to shops with runs on the real thing, subject to family stuff of course.

Weather here is fantastic. 33° yesterday with some spectacular lightning in the evening. Copious amounts of Kozel as well.

All good.

Updates to follow methinks.

All noted but I am here now. I will attend your office with a copy of Bradshaw s guide stuffed down the back of my shorts upon my return.

Until then I will have to make do with travelling by train to a variety of model shops, buying model trains, drinking fine beer, eating good food in temps of 20+ degrees in the company of a fine looking woman.

Crap, I know but I will force myself to enjoy it in the tradition of the Empire.

You are not wrong Marion and as a result, a quick question for you all.

Given my chosen period is 1989-1994.....

I have decided to go for a Bardotka. Which is the most suitable. I am still trying to get my head around the liveries of the period so any help is appreciated.

My preference is the first image with black CSD plates, however please advise me accordingly.

Hey Rob,

'89-94 was a nice era, quite interesting actually, noone really knew what's gonna happen.

So the loco should be this one with this yellow stripe right? There are not too many pics 89-94, but have a look on the galeries below.

Also the MTB limited edition is avail. only from AMB (modely.biz) and maybe vvitty may have one or 2 too. The MTB is going to be pretty much historically correct.

Roco should be fine too, i do preffer the look of MTB tho, and also it is a czech company so if w buy their models we may have a luck and get different czech loco from them :)

I dunno but for me the thin warning stripe has something into itself, of course I like other liveries too :)

Let me know if you need anything

In company of fine women and beer....hmmm sometimes i miss Czech republic, chicks and liquid bread, only if we had a sea and wages like in Ireland otherwise I love that contry:D ;)

I have the Roco Bardotka in the slightly later livery with a larger yellow stripe(as on my picture), it's a good model. Get the sound fitted one if you can they sound great!

If you get the non sound one to convert to sound it is straight forward on the Roco and MTB as they have left a space for a speaker. If you need help fitting sound let me know.

The MTB ones have the speaker already built in (well, the ones I have do) ready for the Zimo PLUXX decoder

Interstingly the two factory fitted Roco ones have different speaker arrangements. One has one large speaker that fills the slot in the moulded interior whilst the other one has tow smaller speakers (sugar cubes?) in the speaker slot.

Yeah ROCO had recently design change, I think they now put 2 small speakers everywhere.

It will be no sound for now.

I take it then, all three of the MTB/AMB Bardotkas will be ok for the period I am to model?

Yes, litrerarly any livery, mostly would be red with thin yellow stripe in the front, or thicker one running around the whole loco.

For bardotkas it would also be the red/grey livery. The only post socialist livery you would not see would be completely red vehicles.

Yellow stripes come to use when it become aparent that cherry red is almost invisible in darkness.

In the era you model you could even use the models that have the socialist star on them and patch the star with a bit of paint.

They would not repaint all vehicles directly after revolution, that took some time and after separation for Czechoslovakia into the 2 countries you stil lcould see CSD vehicles till late 90'es.

See page 1 of this thread, May 1995 CSD Googles with CD coach :)

Thanks for the information Marion and I will look forward to the blog.

Off to Praha tomorrow. See what happens.

On our travels today we came across this lovely narrow gauge station at Vcelnicka.

Had to stop and take some photos.

Hi all after watching a DVD on Czech Railways I was fascinated by the whole area the DVD showed a lot of DB stock running on CD lines. Anyway as I said I was fascinated by it so much so that I've just ordered a ROCO class 754 (don't ask why I never know :jester:) now I need to find something to run behind the 754 I believe this loco would as a rule run on passenger working is that right?

Things have not gone to plan.

Visited friends in Prague last night and had a great time. However, a combination of copious amounts of Kozel and the contents of several unlabelled bottles of unknown clear alcoholic liquid led to significant slippage in the timetable today.

Will have to return later in the week as we did not visit the model shops as planned.

However did manage a stop at an intermediate station on the Tabor-Bechyne line and some nice photos resulted. Will post later.

Wobbly Rob.
