grahame Posted January 29, 2014 Share Posted January 29, 2014 (edited) It was probably buried away in the thread about N’spirations, but I have accepted the offer of being the new N Gauge Society Journal Editor following the recent resignation of Richard. This will be with effect from issue 2/14. Issue 1/14 is currently in production, is due out in a couple of weeks and will be Richards last. Obviously I have some ideas in mind and plans for the future to try and improve the Journal. However, the purpose of this message is to appeal for NGS members to let me know of any changes that they would like to see (with the Journal) and to ask that they continue writing and producing articles and features – but to now send them to me. There is no restriction on the type of article so long as it is of interest and benefit to NGS members. I appreciate that the Journal is a restricted circulation magazine and only distributed to members of the N Gauge Society but there are over 6000 members and many are also regular readers of RMweb. Plus of course I would be more than happy to receive suitable and appropriate articles (i.e. of benefit and interest to members) from non-members, and I’ll try and arrange for a printed copy to be sent to them if published - it might even encourage them to join. Grahame, Thanks for posting this as an item in its own right - I'm an NGS Member but hadn't seen anything about this in the threads/areas of RM Web which I regularly read. Good luck with this and I hope you enjoy a successful reign, with good support from the membership! I've already started work on my first issue which will be 2/14. However, although I have a number of ideas that I'd like to develop and introduce, that issue will be very much as previous ones due to flow-over content already started, the hand over process and current procedures already in place and working. I seem to remember reading somewhere that you had been planning to do a review on using FiNetrax in the next issue of Nspirations. Is there any possibility that this might appear in the NGS Journal instead? There was a short article about fiNetraX and featuring a point kit in N'spiratons12. And I have been promised an article for the Journal about building a point. It all rather depends when this is completed, but finetraX certainly won't get forgotten about or missed in the Journal. I've had a quick flick through and there looks to be plenty of good reading for the next few days - a huge improvement on recent issues which sadly lasted about ten minutes before heading for the recycling. I'm confident that Grahame will be able to strike a balance between the kind of material he was publishing when he wasn't beholden to anyone else and the need for inclusiveness in a society journal. I've also have several emails along similar lines, including one from the previous editor, which I consider very pleasing. As I mentioned in the editorial that issue was very much as previous ones with most changes to take place with the next. Content, is, of course, mainly dependant on contributions (so I look forward to people continuing to providing quality articles), although I hope that I demonstrated by careful selection and adding in some specifically sourced content, modelling coverage and interest can be broadened and improved. Hi Filing the point blades put me off building points for years, however, I decided to bit the bullet and have a go. Its not as difficult as you might think and I can produce a pair of point blades in around 10 minutes now. Frogs are just as easy to file up with the correct jig. You will get sent a welcome pack containing the handbook and bits like the membership card, and, I'd have thought, the Journal currently available at the time - so presumably issue 2/14. You could check with the membership secretary on membership-secretary@ngaugesociety.com who deals with such things. However, you will get a total of six journals for one years membership, as well as all the other benefits, and Journal back copies can be ordered/purchased. Welcome to the NGS.
