DavidB-AU
One sleeper was taken to Italy for evaluation about 6 years ago and never returned. It did not, as the Courier-Mail claimed several times, go for a swim in Moreton Bay. Cheers David

The Blue Streak
It's been a while since I posted anything in Aussie Modern or Preservation. So I dug through the photo albums and found these that I took at the WAGR Midland workshops in the mid '80's. Most of these old girls have long since been torched for scrap. J Class J105 F Class F42 X Class X1023 "Kabiera" Various Shunters More Shunters Dd 596 (I cant quite remember but I believe this may be on static display at the Gosnells Markets, either that or bits were used to help restore the one at the Markets and Dd592 which spent a few years in preservation on rail tours). (See Edit at end of post) Dd 596 rear view This should be familiar to those who just bought the Southern Models or Haskell HO version, L268 in Experimental Blue, the very day it came out the paint shop. Rear View L268 Sorry about the quality but these were taken on an old 110 camera close to 30 years ago and scanned quickly Today. I hope they are of some interest,. Regards Ted Edit Re Dd596 - This is definately the Locomotive currently on Display at the Gosnells Markets in WA http://www.australiansteam.com/Dd%20596.htm Edited June 5, 2016 by The Blue Streak

DavidB-AU
$1b for new suburban trains for Sydney rail networkMore than $1 billion will be spent on new suburban trains for Sydney's overstretched rail network over the next four years, the first major purchase for Sydney Trains since the troubled Waratah project almost a decade ago.http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/nsw-state-budget-2016-1b-for-new-suburban-trains-for-sydney-rail-network-20160620-gpn80u.html
dullsteamer
This bit is interesting: The new suburban trains are unlikely to be freshly designed sets, unlike the order made several years ago for a new intercity fleet. In that case I wonder what we'll get? More OSCars? Or something off the shelf? The next time I see our CEO I must ask him. Cheers, Mark.

In that case I wonder what we'll get? More OSCars? Or something off the shelf? The next time I see our CEO I must ask him. My bet would be more Warraths, a mix of 4 and 8 car sets. Downer published plans for a 4 car version some time ago. Cheers David
dullsteamer
That's interesting, I didn't know about that. If we do get more A-sets it won't make any difference to us here on the Illawarra. None of us are qualified on them. All the best, Mark.
