steve1
Some on here may remember the original Duncan's Mine, a pointless mine layout set in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. After it was sold (unexpectedly!) at TVNAM in 2012, I began to miss it. So, as you do, I thought I'd build it again. Although sticking closely to the original format, this time there would be a few changes. These amounted to: 1. Longer. 6ft including sector plate, instead of around 5ft 2. Wider. 1ft, instead of 8in 3. Four tracks instead of three. So, with a baseboard provided by Colin of Black Cat Baseboards, away I went. Just to reassure Nick of TVNAM(!) here are some pics to show progress: View from sector plate end View from mine buildings end Nice Walthers building under construction Link from sector plate to rest of layout (Excuse quality of soldering!) Note on electrics - Straight DC. The power is attached so that only the sector plate is constantly 'live' and the running road is only 'live' when the connector is pushed across. It works like having electrical sections in effect but without the wiring and switches. Other structures are also under way and I have a certain Mr Ripley lined up to paint the backscene... More pics in due course. steve Edited to marginally improve the pics. Edited March 3 by steve1 Update
steve1
One advantage in rebuilding a previous layout is that I can re-use the majority of the stock. Some is being upgraded and a few items are being replaced, along with a few new items. steve

Spitfire2865
Here are some more pics: DM202.jpg steve Very nice. Do you have a closer photo of that flat car in the front? It looks like an old metal HO Lionel car.
steve1
Thanks Spitfire, It's actually a Walthers Blacksmith's Car kit I built some years ago. Similar to --> http://www.collector-modeltrains.com/dash/universe/catalog_item/MT-0714592/ although mine was an undec version. steve
steve1
The layout has been under the care of ERFG's Rippers and Co, so when I get it back I will some pics of it updated. dave1905
It took me a few minutes to translate "English" to "American". On this side of the pond, a "pointless" layout has a somewhat different connotation.

DanielB
Love this layout, it was great seeing it at Mansfield. It's an inspiring layout, especially the detail inside the workshop shed - It's put me in a mood to get cracking on my own HO scale layout now. Thanks for the gondola too Steve, that really took me by surprise. I'll have to return the favor at TVNAM if you are there?

steve1
Have been adding some workers to the layout this evening, from a pack of Woodland Scenics' miners. Six blokes don't seem to have made much difference and look a bit lost. Must get more bods on! Also been starting the conveyor that will be coming in from the side to the loader. Made from a Walthers kit. steve Edited April 22, 2015 by steve1
