It's been a little while since my last update, I've been doing a few rolling stock upgrades including this DB type Es open that I picked up at Didcot

 

 

 

And a Lima container wagon that I because it had some rather nice (British) 14mm wheels, I had intended to put it on the Club Sales Stand but decided that i needed a one-weekend project 

 

 

 

Industrivej's next outing is a return to Nottingham show at Harevy Hadden Sport Village on 17th and 18th March as part of the "Getting STarted" series of hand-on demos

 

Other exhibits with a European theme include;

Looks like a Klein Wagon, they did make some like this, but the weathering has highlighted it further. Here’s a JZ one in my collection which has the same mottling (if you look carefully!!).

Agreed, Kleinbahn, I've got a few of them too although I haven't weathered any yet (they turn up quite often on eBay):

Thanks for the kind words, the 4 wheelers are indeed Kleinmodellbahn with the pre-dented sides. I've found them quite cheaply at shows and swapmeets. My DB Eaos however do have dents by me.

 

 

 

The technique I used was to put pools of superglue on the sides and let it set before painting the wagon. I got the technique from another RM Webber, Mastanec hwo used it on CD Eas wagons.

A shunting tractor for the silos at Industrivej - Athearn John Deere with push plate, roll bar and ballast weight from Evergreen styrene, a DW beacon. I made up the three-point linkage from scrap brass.

Roco's MZ is a fine model but I always thought the add on plastic front handrails were a bit chunky. I've filled the holes with 0.5mm Evergreen rod and added new hand rails from .31mm nickel-silver wire.

More wirework- a couple of Lima Hbis slide side vans getting the .31mm n/s wire treatment

 

 

I've also started to blacken the handrails on the MZ using Birchwood Casey Brass Black

Time for an update, I've renumbered the MZ as a series I engine and put new logos on the nose, lower than the original.




The Hbis vans are painted and decalled, next up - final assembly and weathering.

How do you get that excellent weathering effect on the roofs?

Hi Pete,

 

I used the hairspray technique that armour modellers use, after priming I sprayed the roof silver Vallejo acrylic. After it had thoroughly dried (a few days) I sprayed hairspray oven it and allowed that to dry. I then sprayed the roof brown usings Vallejo German Camoflage Black-Brown and Smoke, once that was dry but not fully hardened (an hour or so) I wet the roof with plain water to reactivate the hairspray and used a stiff paint brush to distress the brown risning from time to time so that i could see the effect.

 

There are various video tutorials about - this is a channel I quite like

 

I think in future I'd use a gloss enamel varnish after the silver coat to give it some extra protection.

A little more progress on the MZ this week

Well I reckon 1404 is done at that, new front grabs from .31mm nickel-silver wire and weathered using five shades of enamel; Revell leather brown, black and anthracite and Humbrol leather and gun metal metalcote. I used Tamiya satin varnish before weathering which adds a nice sheen under the dirt.

 

 

I don't have a before pic but here is 1404 alongside 1420, the next project

MZ 1453 on the fueling point at Fredericia August 2018, Such a great loco and a great livery......and the patch repairs and painting give a model loco look.

More patch repairs, but on 1452 this time ticking over at Fredericia on the same day in August as the previous photo of 1453. If you notice there are holes and rust in the body side of the cab at the same level as the door. Appears to have rotted out along the joint seem. 

 

Everything gets the DB Red treatment. Not horrible, IMHO, as the grey sole bar offsets the block red but I way prefer the DSB Red and Black.  This was also ticking over, buffered up to 1452 at Fredericia.

Series IV MZ’s are available from Hobbytrade they even do DBAG versions although that’s a bit “new” for me....

 

 

MCK are bringing one out later this year as well which I expect will be a stunning model if it’s anything like their ME.

Yes, the ME class diesels work regular regional passenger trains out of Copenhagen, nowadays with double deck push-pull sets as all the single deck cars seem to have gone. The dark blue livery does nothing for their looks, especially once it gets dirty and dull. Most of the MEs I saw in September 2018 were still in the dark blue, but I did see a couple of red ones.

I agree with Grizz's comment earlier that the red and black livery looked good, but the plain red at least lifts the appearance over the rather dire dark blue livery.

These photos were taken at Copenhagen H on 24th September 2018. A dark blue ME can be seen over to the right of the IC3 unit.

Hi Paul, thanks for asking, it’s fairly complete and has a couple of invitations for 2020, there are a few things I’d like to do. Some loco & filling stock projects and some on the layout infrastructure. One of the more random things I’m doing is a wagon that was converted from a Gs van to move Nohab engines from Central Workshops to Godsbanegade loco depot
