Ixion at RAILEX Aylesbury Saturday 25th May 2014

Ixion directors Chris Klein and Lindsay O'Reilly will be visiting the Railex show in Aylesbury on Saturday 25th May. Lindsay is visiting from Australia and is on a grand tour of Europe with his wife Janine, who will be staying in London for some reason that we find hard to understand. We will be wearing Ixion shirts, which while not the high point of sartorial elegance do confer the advantage of easy recognition. Throughout the day we will be found either with our loyal retailers, Dragon Models, EDM Models and Roxey Mouldings or admiring the layouts.  Please don't hesitate to stop for a chat.

Regards,

On the standard guage, I've got an odd pair of strange 'Ixion' thingies which seem to do most of the work, together with an 04 and a Pug. The Ivatt will be there, but doesn't really get to do much, as it's a bit big......

Narrow guage wise - a choice of four. A Lister, Simplex, Fowler-Marshall and Bagnall......

(It won't take you long to get the hang of a bit of driving!)

Right ho Giles. Lindsay should be ok too as they still drive on the left in Australia despite having gone metric.

Railex was absolutely first class. It's the first time I have visited this show and I was very impressed. Good quality layouts, high class traders and friendly company made for a most enjoyable time. I'll post a few photos tomorrow. The Scale 7 stand had an Ixion Fowler converted to Scale 7 standards using Slater's wheels. The owner said the conversion job took the owner just 90 minutes to complete.

Hi Chris,

It was good to meet you on Saturday, pleased to hear you enjoyed the show.

Here are some shots of Giles Favell's seminal "End of the Line" layout. Everything about this layout is so well-engineered and finished. We at Ixion consider it a humbling accolade that Giles runs our Hudswell Clarke and Fowler locos unmodified other than for the fitting of of DCC and weathering.

I enjoyed watching the Whiteoak Light Railway at Railex. It is an 0-16.5 freelance figment of Martin Coombs's fecund imagination and the first three photos show the layout in its entirety from left to right. . The quality of the modelling is superb and the running quality is excellent. Among the notable features for me was the track. It is bog standard Peco 0-16.5, but has been so well ballasted and weatherd that I thought it was 14mm gauge track at first sight. The finish of the brickwork is very good and the stencilled sign on the wall is a great piece of work. The boat, though, is quite possibly the star of this layout. Plenty of plagiarism potential here.
