wombatofludham
Mace. the Media Archive for Central England, have uploaded an 11 minute clip of a downloadable 20 minute programme made in 1966-7 by ATV profiling the new electric service from Birmingham. Never one to spend a penny when a farthing would do, ATV clearly used some cheap remaindered 16mm film stock in glorious monochrome to film it, so it's definitely low def, but worth a view.http://www.macearchive.org/Archive/Title/atv-today-06031967-your-new-railway/MediaEntry/33160.html For those of you who come out in hives at the mention of electric traction, there is a shot of Clun Kettle at the end, plus some rotbox Black 5s amongst the rubble that was New Street during rebuilding, and for the oil burners amongst you, a brief glimpse of a Met Cam dmu. I was mildly bemused to hear that the Woodhead electrification was at 1800v and that the re-signalling of the London and Birmingham appeared to include the use of Bullied design electric multiple units but I don't suppose you can expect a channel more associated with game shows, Crossroads and the Muppets to include any gricers on their news room staff.
