RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted March 20, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 20, 2018 A couple of hours over the last few nights an the crossing is nearly complete and is working well even without the checkrails so I’m pretty pleased Cheers
Dmudriver
Looking really good, Paul. It's so satisfying, isn't it? I really enjoyed doing mine. However, the mistake I made was building up each point as a separate item**, rather than building the whole station throat complex as one. It means the running is acceptable rather than being smooth - there's a couple of rough spots. However, it doesn't stop trains running or cause them to derail. Rod My brain had been Peco-washed!! Thanks Rod I love it an I find it so therapeutic (when it goes right ) I’ve built away from the board in the past so kind of learnt building on site is better. Also last time I used C&L templates which are great but not as flowing as Templot which is what I’ve used here, I’m sure I’ll have a couple of rough spot to mate but as long as those 40’s an peaks pass over I’ll be happy an let’s face rough track is pretty prototypical for around here Thanks again

RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted March 22, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 22, 2018 Been doing the odd 30 minutes each night so finally got the crossing finished, apart from checkrails and the extended wingrails but I’ll have to order some more bh rail before I can do anymore, so in the mean time I’ll try and wire up what I’ve done already.

Dmudriver
That's why the have station area speed limits on the real thing........ Yep, agreed, Andy. I've got them on the model, too - 10 mph over all pointwork on the station approach. Rod

RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted March 26, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 26, 2018 Hi Paul, Looking good, I agree that you're going to have to have long legs top operate that layout. On another note, the ends of your baseboard where the track is, have you thought about securing the rail with something, like maybe a brass pin fixed into the wood and up through the sleeper? The track is prone to being caught, no matter how careful and good the intentions, and it will just wreck all your hard work. Chris (Too Many Spams) on here has solved the baseboard end problems with one of the most unique and well hidden ideas I've seen. Have a look a bit back through his Pencarrow thread here: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/69736-pencarrow-pg255-wagons-walls-bufferstops-and-pain/ Just a thought Jinty Thanks for the shout Jints, I doubt anyone could find anything in the Pencarrow thread (I know I can't!), so here's a direct link to the exact posts: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/69736-pencarrow-pg255-wagons-walls-bufferstops-and-concrete-dont-mention-frogs/?p=2504959
