Rail Express Modeller Yearbook

Dear all,

It's been a while since anyone's seemingly posted in this section, so I thought I'd add a link to the notice regarding the new Modellers yearbook that's due out now. Plenty of content including two very popular layouts and some other modelling that will be familiar to several on here... and maybe something of mine too.

Anyway... thought it worth highlighting... especially if you like your diesels or electric units.

"Rail Express magazine’s monthly modelling supplement goes solo for the first time with this bumper, 124-page edition – Modeller Yearbook. Staying true to its ethos, the special publication is dedicated entirely to modelling the diesel and electric era across the British Isles.

The contents include a detailed look at some of the most popular layouts on the exhibition circuit and in depth modelling features on locomotives, multiple units, coaching stock and wagons.

Infrastructure is not forgotten either while the ever-popular Modeller’s Guide series also appears, complete with train formation graphics.

Illustrated throughout with the best photography, it is a must for all diesel and electric modellers."

Are annuals/yearbooks relevant any more as you can find out more about many of the layouts on the web? Is this really just a throwback to when many of us oaf a certain age used to look forward to Christmas morning so that we could get our favourite comic annual? Second childhood springs to mind!

If your asking about DitD - i'm presuming its new as it has been re-photographed, but i've not seen it....

Thansk but all the content really as I've seen a few "yearbook" recycled efforts and I was not happy!!

Thanks for the heads up Jonathan, will be picking up a copy once it is out.

I thought I ought to post something here as REM hasn't got much of a mention on here lately... which is a shame. I didn't initiate anything because having got an article in there (part 3 of 4 soon out) it might of been seen as slightly self serving.

Hey ho.

I wouldn't worry Jon, they are very good articles! Well I certainly enjoyed reading them.

Hi all, just to confirm. . yes the yearbook will be available from the larger branches of WHSmiths. The date confirmed on their stock system for release is the 21st November.

Also to confirm that yes, it's all new material and includes layout features, modellers guides, 2/4 and 7mm detailing articles across the eras. So hopefully something for everyone! The Diesels in the Duchy article is a new feature, nothing has been 're-run', the plan is to keep it fresh and produce a 'stand alone' Rail Express Modeller magazine if you will.

It'l also be available from Ian Allan bookshops, selected model shops, and of course feel free to pick up a copy from the Rail Express stand at Warley on the 22/23rd of this month. We should have enough to meet demand. Myself and Simon will be there to answer any questions so feel free to pop along for a chat. Lots of featured models from the yearbook and magazine will be on display.

Anyway, hope everyone likes it! A lot of work has gone into it from a fair few people and it shouldn't be the last. Thanks to everyone that has made it possible including you guys on this thread!

Alex

A retro spectrum annual would be a deffo for me! Kind of like an ultimate BR liveries bookazine or somthing like that

Agreed, we have more ideas in the melting pot. If the yearbook/bookazine is a success, there will definitely be more to come.

Yep, IMO they are. They are not just about 'layouts' but include modelling projects and prototype articles that are not published/available on the web.

In the last few years all the major model railway commercials now seem to have launched a yearbook for the Christmas time.

Be careful if you buy from Smiths, was on their system as £7.99 not £6.99 in Liverpool.

I ordered mine online for £6.99 with free postage and able to settle by PayPal - result.

It arrived today - very impressed.
