Sparta-rb
Hi everyone Some subscribers to both Narrow gauge & Industrial Railway Modelling Review and our new title, Finescale Railway Modelling Review, will have received emails from PayPal telling them that 'automatic recurring payments' for the titles have been cancelled. This definitely does NOT mean their subscriptions have been cancelled, as some feared. It is simply that PayPal's habit of setting up 'automatic recurring payments' for anything that uses the word 'subscription' can cause confusion as readers sometimes forget that it is in place and make direct or new renewal payments based on our standard expiry notification included with the magazine mailing. They then sometimes go on to approve their 'recurring' PayPal payment, thus effectively paying twice. While this is not a problem in that overpayments can be refunded or used to extend subscriptions, we obviously don't want people paying twice (nor the admin effort that goes with it). For this reason we are cancelling all 'automatic recurring payment' PayPal profiles and relying instead on the normal annual reminder system. Subscribers only need to pay when they receive the usual reminder and you can still safely use PayPal to renew easily and quickly - it is only 'automatic recurring payments' that are being cancelled in future. Both NG&IRM and Finescale Review are in robust good health. This exercise is simply about preventing overpayment and/or confusion. Apologies to anyone who wondered what it was all about. Branwell
Thanks for the clarification Bob. Funnily enough I e-mailed you about renewal this morning - I think you've now answered my question! Regards, David Varley
rue_d_etropal
I must admit, I was puzzled when I received this same email, but thought OK, I will get a reminder when subscription is due. From experience with other specialist magazines, there has normally been a reminder in the last magazine in subscription. I can never remember when I start a new subscription, so was a bit surprised to receive a letter saying subscription had now lapsed . Doesn't seem like a year since I subscribed, but it could be.
