Same here Ken, I bought a Smallbrook Studio "Columbine" kit ages ago, have given it a dry run but yet to actually build the thing! I have the chassis ready to go too.

I do like 15" gauge and have over the years been stockpiling bits of track ready for the day - as well as a pile of books on the subject (like Rob).

I'll get round to it sometime, but I keep getting 'distracted' by other projects (like 009 at the mo)... I think one thing that also slightly puts me off getting going on Gn15 is actually the scale, it just seems too big!! With 4mm I can build stuff and if it looks a bit wonky I can cover up the mistakes, but somehow I think in G everything is going to be so much bigger that my bodging won't work. We'll see!

cheers,

Keith

As an experienced(?) gNatterboxer, I can confirm there are Gn15 modellers here, as I recognise some names. For a variety of reasons there seems to have been a drop in interest, not helped by Steve Bennett being ill at the moment and his kits not being available. There had been a slowdoiwn before. Tom Bell(tebee) has taken over hosting of the foirum, and has designed some low cost wagons to keep people interested.

I have started a new challenge for 2015, to link to centenary of Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway converting to 15in gauge. Hopefully plan is to get some publicity, maybe a magazine such as BRM  to publish article . The centenary event is at end of August. oh, the challenge, Gn15, at least one operational point or turntable, all in a space of 19in by 15in (1915) and no height limit. If I have missed out on anything, have a look on the Gnatterbox, under Challenges.

It is a total coincidence, but I unearthed a 19in by 15in Gn15 layout I built in 2007 for another challenge, and I intend to clean that up, and build a new one as well.

This is a worldwide challenge, and if we do get anything exhibited, we can have video of those not able to attend those exhibitions.

I too have made a few Gn15 models, using Steve's kits. I've known Steve for quite a few years, but don't get much opportunity to catch up with him. He doesn't attend many exhibitions now. Mostly the specialist narrow gauge shows (Shepton Mallet in February being one). I've not been on Gnatterbox for quite a long time, but had posted a few photos of a couple of projects. When I get chance I'll dig out some photos.

*BUMP*

I think the obvious thing to do would be to use the Hornby Railroad range such as the Flying Scotsman to model the Rhomney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway. I have not seen any obvious candidates in the 2-8-2 locomotives to model the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway. Many of the Heywood 15" types would not be too difficult to model using something like a Hornby Caledonian Pug chassis as the basis (I believe that kits were available at a time)

I think that the RH&DR and the R&ER prototypes would best be modelled around the walls of a small room to watch them go by. I particularly like the modelling potential in the RH&DR Balloon loop at the lighthouse with a turntable at the other end of the line.

Peco On30 track would probably be the obvious and immediate solution, although I would probably model quite a bit of plain track using the Peco Code 100 HO/OO track spiked to timber sleepers, or even just burying the sleepers in the ballast in sections to make it easier.

I own up govenor as I also model in Gn15 as well as 0.16.5 together with mainstream 4mm modelling both Modern traction as well as 60 steam and green western region diesels..

Unfortunately without a Gn15 layout at present as my last Ecclestone Manor was retired after Warley 2014

Plans we'll in hand for a repalcement layout Chebstone ? something or other which I hope to make a start on in the coming months

Have a number of suitable baseboards together with track and some buildings.

Managed to purchase from the late Steve Warrington a number of stub points last time I met Steve last year.

So once time becomes available and the layouts are complete it will be all go

All for now

Last year I designed up a complete set of GN15 style laser cut kits for a customer.

I am now about to launch a full range of GN15 / SM12 narrow gauge kits designed as 16mm scale running on 00 to represent a 12 inch gauge railway or can be used as G scale for 15 inch gauge. The range will include 4 wheel rolling stock for platform, open, bolster, slate, tipper wagon and box van as well as semi open, enclosed passenger coach and guards van. There will then be bogie rolling stock for platform, open wagon and box van as well as enclosed three compartment coaches. All rolling stock kits will be supplied with Hornby axles and peco brass axle bearings. The buffer beams have a slot to take the coupling and a gear box mount behind, so most couplings can be fitted including the long shank Kadee whisker couplers.

There will also be a 4 wheel diesel engine and tram engine body kit designed to fit the standard Hornby 0-4-0 tank chassis and a pair of bo-bo diesels to fit HST bogies, with the first having engine bonnet and end cab and the other having dual end cabs. The loco kits come with metal grills and LED lights as well as glazing.

Would this be something of interest to the GN15 group here and where would be the best place to start promoting the products.

The prototype designs are now complete, so I am getting the photo shoot done next week and will get them put on the North Pilton Works website.. I will then post some photo's in here with the full dimensions to gauge feedback.

A couple of photographs of my new GN15 layout “The Old Works” taken at Macclesfield exhibition a few weeks back.

Next outing will be at Stafford on 2nd & 3rd February 2019

Note to Exhibition Managers

A small layout that fits in the car
