Well it had to happen. After spending too long mixing with the types that inhabit 'A Nod to Brent' , I have finally succumbed.
After years as a confirmed modeller of the S&DJR, I am about to start dabbling in Western Region steam.
I envisage a small station, be it a through station or a small terminus . Small engines with short trains.
Still working on the plan at the moment so in the meantime I will concentrate on the stock and buildings.

This is separate from my S&DJR interests as in my world the glorious S&DJR was never tarnished by Swindon influence. However, this thread will allow me to indulge in my dirty little Western region fantasies.

In no small way due to ANTB, a Devon location is envisaged, with lots of greenery and a bit of water.

A few images giving an idea of where this is going then;

Rob

Definitely like that - oh and the trains aren't bad either, quite as tasteful as her delectable self ;)

(I wonder if she realises she has groupies on RMweb - especially as a certain RMweb member - who does not frequent this thread I think - lives not to far from her?)

The Lady is Jenny Aguter, be careful not to let the Duck catch you eyeballing her otherwise :butcher:

Looks like this will be fun.

Can't say Devon holds much interest for me, too far east, but best wishes all the same.

The Bristol and Exeter Railway operated the Somerset Central when it was broad gauge. So you can run trains operated by a company that became part of the GWR, and then the Western Region, over part of what later became the S&D. You just need to go further back in time by a century or so :sungum:.

Thank you all for you thoughts thus far. Looking at various ideas. This will probably be a small riverside through station.

Really do want a bit of water, to encourage some local wildlife.....

There's a lot of unbuilt schemes in the South Hams :)

Do you need a list?

Thanks. Would be handy.
I have a location in mind but it's based entirely in fiction...

From Tony Kingdom's Ashburton Branch book, page 70

  • Yealmpton to Modbury and Kingsbridge
  • Kingsbridge to Torcross and Dartmouth
  • Kingsbrige to Salcombe
  • Extension  of Totnes Quay via Dittisham to Dartmouth
  • Extension of Ashburton as a diversionary route to Exeter as part of a Plymouth-Exeter scheme.

And one I found on the web - Wembury.

Why not do something a bit different?

- Goods only (passenger services withdrawn perhaps)

- Former through route (like one suggested by Coombe Barton above), but now truncated beyond your location

- Industrial adjunct (with it's own loco)

Would you like the full sausage coverage on this thread, by the way, or just the 5 minute version?

It's always good to see someone doing a western layout. By the way my layout is based on the premise that the line from Kingsbridge to Dartmouth and then on to Torbay was built.

Couldn't pull the skin off a limp rice pudding, that one, when working on the WSR in 1981...

Many pieces of ballast were crushed on Washford Bank, in an attempt to get her and her train to the top...

Oh yes please, very nice, but I fear that CTMK will not permit the onions... such a shame!

Oh Matron, now if you put those pictures on the info panel for the layout it would probably cause crowd control problems plus you should have Palethorpes wagons on the branch!
