Strathmore Line - Glamis

Thanks C, this line desperately needs any help it can get. Its a real forgotten gem.

Much earlier than your diagram there was another siding beyond the headshunt. I suspect it was for livestock as the area around it was referred to as Market Muir. In total there were 7 sidings at that time. By 1902 it was removed.

Signal box diagrams for the line between Alyth Jct and Kinnaber Jct are usually available at a very reasonable price (I think I paid about £3) from www.studio433.co.uk.  These are hand-drawn diagrams produced over the last forty-plus years by John Hinson. Where possible, they reflect the proportions and curvature of each location but like all signal box diagrams they are not scale maps. Most have been sourced from original documents.  Unfortunately studi433's site is currently down for maintenance.

Hi Sulzer27JD,

Just to say I have decided to start drawing up track and signalling diagrams on CAD for the Strathmore line - track and signalling layouts (M1's) - as opposed to the 2 SBD's (M5's) I've posted. I won't be posting on Forum, but as you expressed appreciation for the other two I'm happy to send you copies when complete. If you'd like to receive them drop me a PM with your email address

regards,

R

Hi JohnR,

Just a quick update to say as you liked the diagrams I posted I'll send you a bigger selection if you send me a PE with your email address. I'm hoping to finish my 'Strathmore Project' in about a month. I have now created nearly 70 drawings and I can send you a selection. Luckily for many of the SB's on the Strathmore Line I have information to show the layout at various dates. My interest has also wandered off the main line so to speak, and so I've done drawings for the likes of Elliot Jcn and Blairgowrie also.

kind regards,

Robert

Thanks Robert.

I still think the Strathmore line (and branches) are a forgotten gem. Whatever happened to the idea of it having its own section on the forum?

I did moot it as a counterpart to the Waverley Route section, but I wouldn't pretend to have nearly as much knowledge on the subject as others on here.

Partly it comes down to the level of information freely available and accessible in the public domain.  The same should be said, in my view, of The Perth Direct and Port Road.

I think one of the advantages of RmWeb is that pooling of resources and knowledge. I'm sure none of us will claim to be experts on all aspects of any route, but by sharing our information (such as these excellent signalbox diagrams) we can all gain.

Completely in accord with this view.

Let me have a pootle around this weekend and establish where we are, under the Railways of Scotland banner as well as specialist areas....

Hello Robert, all,

I know this maybe a bit off topic but it does relate to Kinnaber and Strathmore route.....

Does anyone have or know of the Gradient Profiles for the Kinnaber Junction as was?

Regards & thanks

Roy

The  Caledonian  Railway  Association  has  a  number  of  gradient  diagrams  in  its  archive,  including  the  one  referred  to  under  reference  CRA3/7/2/37.  But  you'll  need  to  visit  the   archive  in  Glasgow.  A  referral  to  the  archivist  (see  the  website)  would  be  helpful.

Hi Roy,

Just picked up your post. I have done a track and signalling diagrams for 1917, 1959 and 1981(as opposed to signal box diagram posted earlier) for Kinnaber, which include gradient detail from official BR dwg. Send me a PE letting me know which you'd like with your email.

regards,

Robert

Gents,

Most diagrams complete, and one attached for interest.

Sulzer27 & John.D, will email you a number of the bigger examples, like Brechin & Forfar.

kind regards,

Robert

Hi Robert,

The Strathmore line is a a major interest of mine with a specific fascination for the people that worked on the line, especially signalling and the subsequent alterations leading up to the closure in 67 and 82.

Here is link to my Flickr album for Forfar Road LC etc. I never knew about the GF which I presume was slotted with No11 and operated the distant beneath no12?
