Andy Y
Graham Farish N Scale J72 joins the roster OO model pictured The J72 0-6-0T is very special to Bachmann. It was the first OO locomotive to be released by Bachmann when it commenced trading in 1989 and now 25 years later it will appear as part of the Graham Farish range. Over the last 25 years British N scale has seen significant improvements and the new J72 Class locomotive will carry a level of detail that could only be dreamed of in N scale 25 years ago. 372-825 J72 Class 0-6-0T No. 8680 in LNER Lined Green 372-826 J72 Class 0-6-0T No. 69001 in BR Black with early emblem 372-827 J72 Class 0-6-0T No. 69028 in BR Black with late crest New Class 40 OO model pictured The English Electric Class 40 diesel locomotive will return to the Graham Farish range in 2015 with a new DCC ready chassis, working directional lights and a brand new highly-detailed body shell. Introduced on top-link passenger services in 1958, the class numbered 200 examples which would eventually see use on mixed traffic duties following the introduction of more powerful classes on express passenger workings. The 40s were nicknamed ‘Whistlers’ due to their distinctive exhaust sound and the class became popular with enthusiasts as they could be seen across most of the network. This popularity has continued into preservation with seven examples surviving following withdrawal from BR service. 371-180 Class 40 No. D211 ‘Mauretania’ in BR Green with indicator discs 371-181 Class 40 No. D369 in BR Green, centre headcode and small yellow warning panel 371-182 Class 40 No. 40159 in BR Blue, centre head code and full yellow ends Sounding off – DCC SOUND Class 108 Taking N scale advancements to the next level, this year sees the introduction of the first ready to run sound fitted model for the British N scale ready to run market. Our popular Class 108 diesel multiple unit will be partnered with the latest generation of DCC sound decoder and speaker giving British N scale modellers access to the world of DCC sound for the first time in a ready to run model. 371-876DS Class 108 in BR Blue with DCC SOUND Queen Mary Brake Van The Southern Railway was unique in the UK by operating some large bogie brake vans. These were nicknamed Queen Mary’s due to their large size and their luxury that was not normally afforded to Guards working goods trains. 21 former LB&SCR motor luggage vans provided the bogie chassis on to which the brake van itself was constructed from 1933 onwards. Some remained in departmental service up until 2008 and a number have been preserved. This model appears in the Graham Farish catalogue for the first time. 377-875 25 Ton Queen Mary brake van in SR Brown with small lettering 377-876 25 Ton Queen Mary brake van in BR Bauxite 377-877 25 Ton Queen Mary brake van in EWS livery Ready for Inspection This year sees the introduction of the LMS 50ft Inspection Saloon in to the Graham Farish catalogue range for the first time, a model which will add a new dimension to any layout. cornish trains jez
That's a cool line up. Nice to see the Mk1's coming out in Intercity livery. I'll be putting my name down for the Weed killing class 20's!
Karhedron
Pretty disappointing to be honest. Nothing for western fans at all and 2 of the announcements have previously been available to NGS members anyway. About the only good news is that work has finally started on the Castle, 64xx and autocoach after having been announced 2 years ago.
woodenhead
Whoop!! The 40's are coming, 31 is on the high seas and the N class is coming. J72, is that a steal from Dapol A sound 108 is great, like to see them do it in the 40 and then we're really motoring.
RMweb Premium njee20 Posted March 2, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 2, 2015 Very underwhelmed. Colas 60... maybe. Still, at least I won't now be annoyed that none of that lot sees the light of day before 2024.
RMweb Gold TomE Posted March 2, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 2, 2015 Thanks Andy. Good the the Class 40 has finally made it into the line for retool, and the J72 should be a great addition to the range if the 3F is anything to go by. Clearly another year of consolidation & catch up for the N Gauge range though, with the use of tools previously produced for the N Gauge Society padding out the announcement, but both being welcome additions to the mainstream range. Interesting there are no RRPs with the announcement though?! Tom.

RMweb Premium Crepello Posted March 2, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 2, 2015 Good news about the 40 but Dapol won't be pleased about the J72 and nor will I as a Crab or 8F would be far better bets to corner the steam market.

Interesting there are no RRPs with the announcement though?! Tom. I've been on the Farish site, MK1 coaches now £26.50, is that the next price increase applied, so I guess it's going to be difficult for Farish to put prices on items that having gone beyond a drawing stage. woodenhead
Good news about the 40 but Dapol won't be pleased about the J72 and nor will I as a Crab or 8F would be far better bets to corner the steam market. I guess while Dapol aren't doing much and DJM has his own list to deliver there isn't much pressure on these two, though Hornby must now be a possible for an 8F. Interesting actually that Bachmann haven't put down some markers to warn Hornby off.

Tim H
What were the differences between Western and Midland Pullmans? The Western Pullmans were 8-car sets with two classes; only the parlour firsts (2 coaches out of the 8) were common with the Midland sets. The Midland sets did migrate to the WR, where they were fitted with MU jumper cables to enable them to work as a 12-car set.
RMweb Gold D9020 Nimbus Posted March 2, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 2, 2015 After the little announced last year, this is very disappointing–while the new Class 40 is very welcome there is nothing else new to the market—a clash with Dapol for the J72 and two items previously produced for the N gauge society. Of course there are quite a few items still to come, but even so... For me Hornby's introduction to the N gauge market can't come soon enough—when that happens or if Dapol start producing items from their backlog or DJM start introducing models perhaps Bachmann will wake hp again like they did when Dapol first started up. Competition can be good!
RMweb Premium Boco_D1 Posted March 2, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 2, 2015 Sound 108 look forward to that and the Class 60 coal sector but for me it's got to be the weedkilling train!

RMweb Gold Revolution Mike Posted March 2, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 2, 2015 Some strange choices! Why not do the class 70s and 450s in N as well as OO? I'll be interested when the sound fitted 108 arrives if it is actually the first UK N gauge with factory fitted DCC sound! Cheers, Mike
Mr chapman
Company branded 7 plank wagons. It interesting that the NGS queen Mary and inspection saloons are on general release. I'm a bit bemused by the J72 though. With Dapol producing one I don't see the point. They could have shrunk the 94xx instead. No C class. The 4CEP also appears to be down to one livery.... woodenhead
Maybe the lack of new new models is an acceptance by Bachamnn that the price increases over the past two years are altering buying patterns. If they release too much they are going to end up with lots of unsold stock as people can no longer afford to buy in the volumes they could a couple of years back. I know I have to think carefully what I buy, I wanted a 47/7 and DBSO, I also wanted a Duchess but I am targetting my purchases more now.

Roy L S
Class 40 is logical, but a pleasing addition. It is a shame that BachFarish have chosen to duplicate the already announced Dapol J72 when there are so many other LNER tank locos and other steam prototypes (Crab and 8F for example) to choose from. The question is will they bring it to Market any sooner than Dapol? DCC sound 108, again logical, unsurprising but good news. I wasn't expecting a lot personally but I can certainly find a home for a 40 and a couple of BR J72s, so better than I expected overall. Roy

Competition can be good! Yeah, it's funny how now that Dapol's N gauge output has slowed down, so has Bachmann's! Still I'm glad that the Inspection coach is being released as a normal Farish item, but it's a bit of an underwhelming release announcement.
