Andy Y
As announced here we are going to run a challenge to promote interest in the Modular Project you have been so great in formulating! The challenge is purely to make one or more modules which comply with the compatability standards before the end of December 2015. The contect of the modular project allows a lot of freedom in terms of what the module could include so it's worth giving some thought to; you could make a complete layout if you wanted; as long as it's capable of being joined to other modules or you could produce something much smaller but likely to be appreciated for its usefulness as a larger whole. Also it is not a challenge which will be judged in terms of quality, it really is one where the taking part is the important component and for the enjoyment of building something. However the goal will be to look at the locations of those participating to look forward to a non-public event where all module participants can bring their modules along and take part in an enjoyable social and operational event; date and location dependent on participants and venue availability. All you have to do to become part of it is to record the build of your project as a topic within this forum area and declare when it's complete so it can be taken into account for the event. It would be helpful if your topic name had a prefix of Britmod-OO Challenge entry - the name of your module so that when entries appear in View New Content it will attract the right readers. Good luck all!
cromptonnut
For those who can get to Surrey and would like to give their modules a test run in June, please hop over to this thread... http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/97354-secag-modular-meet-27th-june-2015/page-0 I should however stress that this is completely separate to the RMWeb Modular challenge, we had already plans afoot for this meetup before the challenge was accepted, so attendance at our meet is no part of the competition. However, the meet may help some of you get to grips with "modular" and how things operate together. Edited March 20, 2015 by cromptonnut
cromptonnut
Andy, It has been suggested by at least one prospective attendant to our meet in June that you (or someone) from BRM should come along and document our efforts. Therefore I'd like to officially ask that you, or someone on your behalf, comes along - preferably bringing a "module under construction" to participate and potentially help shape future modular meetups even if we only show you how it shouldn't be done! RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted March 24, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 24, 2015 I can't do the June date as it clashes with a work commitment. Can't get out of that as I am Chair of the organisers committee. But I have been doing some design work while away on business and have a scheme that might just make Andy's December deadline - even if only operational rather than fully scenic. Since the modular standards tend to favour flat scenery, where better than Romney Marsh and in particular Appledore, a junction station that can be modelled without much compromise in 12ft. Not sure yet if 4 by 3ft boards or 3 by 4ft boards. Will start a thread as soon as I have built the boards.
cromptonnut
I'm sure ours will only (hopefully!) be the first of many around the country, and I'm sure there are many people who will be happy to travel. "North Dorset" is quite a big area but I have family in Chard so it can't be that far, plus of course there's going to always be the Travelodge option anyway. I'll certainly follow your progress, Romney Marsh is as good a place as any to start Modular doesn't necessarily "flavour flat scenery" - just a little more imagination and complication required
