Today we visit the Sudostbahn at a level crossing near Altmatt, in Switzerland.

It is single line but has a surprisingly frequent train service.

The Re450 was available from HAG, the accompanying carriages where made by Fleischmann in their distinct too-short scale (1:92) for H0. The Ee3/3 was a Roco model, as is the Re 4/4". I'm not aware of availability in other scales as I simply have no interest in them.

Interesting to see how the front ends of the Be4/4 railcars have been altered over the years, with new headlights and different livery application.  Here is 514 at Klosters this summer, when the sets were being used on the 2-hourly Klosters-Davos shuttle:

Switzerland today with a visit to Schindellegi Feusisberg on the Sudostbahn.

The station is situated on a short level piece of line, westbound trains face a climb at 1 in 20 to get to the station from Samstagern, the gradient resumes at 1 in 20 as they leave the station.

Obviously eastbound trains need very good brakes.

East of the station is a double track section, to the west is single track.

The train in the fourth and fifth photos is carrying a full size steam loco kit.

This is an interesting load on C17362 an 363. Looks like an old steam loco will go to the workshop for renovation. If it would be scrap it wouldn't be loaded so neat.

Judging by the frame and wheelsets visible it's probably a D type tank loco (or 0-8-0 for you Brits) as the frame has buffer beams on both sides. Very much possibly en route to Meiningen (ex-GDR) as the workshop there was still in full working order at that time and churned out restored steam loco's in relatively considerable numbers, due to the still cheap work force (paid slightly above GDR rates, German Gov't of the day ordered salaries to be raised moderately to prevent a collapse of the old GDR companies so still a long way behind on BRD pay. The measure was a moderate success preventing a sudden and total collapse of East German economy and smeared out over a longer period the inevitable demise of many businesses, mainly due to many "Ossies" moving west). The loco of that train was later involved in the motive power swap between SOB and SBB as I've alluded to earlier in this thread.

Must admit that I’m still puzzling over that one. The cab looks quite German, but I cannot think of any German 0-8-0Ts likely to be in the area at that time.

Any more details or notes please, Dave?

C17049 "moving coaches from train from St Moritz onto train to Disentis" - I don't think they do that any more. The Glacier Express (that runs through between the two routes) goes all the way into Chur and back out again.

Sorry,

I don'y have any details.   I wonder if it was on its way from the then Oswald Steam facility at Samstagern to somewhere.

The Christmas card shot is definitely a summer shot, given that the lake is not covered in ice. Snow in August! Global warming, don't you know.
