Great northern railway J50 livery.

Recommended Posts

The RCTS 'Green Book' says 221-230, the first batch of J50s, built in 1922, were painted in "the old lined-out green livery. Of the similar J51s, built during WW1, the first twenty were painted in "lined slate grey" while the ten built in 1919 were "unlined slate grey". The J51s looked similar to the J50s but had different diameter (second hand) boilers when built. The GNR regharded them all as J23s, the LNER split them into J50 and J51.
