jukebox
And whilst we're talking space... No risk of Chinese space junk coming down anywhere North of Spain, so most of Europe is safe - as is Perth, but perversely, Melbourne and Sydney still have a marginal chance of play catch-the-satellite Monday morning our time! http://www.satflare.com/track.asp?q=37820&sid=2#TOP
RMweb Premium Physicsman Posted March 31, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 31, 2018 The way messrs Smith, Warner and Bancroft are feeling, maybe they'll be happy if a piece of the space station falls on their heads in Melbourne, Sydney or wherever they are! :jester: Jeff
jukebox
The way messrs Smith, Warner and Bancroft are feeling, maybe they'll be happy if a piece of the space station falls on their heads in Melbourne, Sydney or wherever they are! :jester: Jeff It's been a long time since I've followed or had any respect for the Australian cricket team, Jeff. Many years ago, they morphed into a self interested bunch of egotists, and the game became a business. I think the transition from the Mark Taylor era to the Ricky Ponting one was the point the slide started... *** The map has been updated, and I'm quite surprised how many large cities are still in the frame right now: Melbourne, Gibraltar, Mumbai, Caracas, Las Vegas, Istanbul. peach james
Since I had someone ask, how am I doing, I thought i should comment... I can see. And not even the Sea. (and no, it's not an April fools joke, though I am posting before noon on the 1st...) Which is hugely relieving. Because not being able to see was rather upsetting. So, I am very glad that most of my vision has returned. I did buy an optivisor (magnifier), and I still need to visit the optometrist to get a good look done at my eyes. I've still done about 0 with Long Marton, I've been busy playing with Lego. (to date, 2 shows, with another 3 to go until the end of May). We're working on the club layout next Friday, I have to figure out how I am putting the plastic for the control panel together. The current plan is to use some of the 1/8th plastic that I have to make the front out of, and use tape to line it. The layout is conventional DC, going with 3 cabs. RMweb Premium Physicsman Posted April 1, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 1, 2018 Scott, it will be interesting to see where the big chunks land, especially as the Chinese lost the ability to send the station to the usual south Pacific graveyard in 2016. James, I hope your recovery is continuing. I read an article yesterday about an 8 year old girl who is trying to see as many things as possible before the onset of her imminent blindness. An upsetting read. I don't think any of us who've never experienced appreciable sight degradation (other than wearing glasses) appreciate how scary it must be. All the best, and keep us informed of progress. Jeff
jukebox
Not a fan of Fox or Murdoch media, I read a lot of articles from The Atlantic. This was a link today... http://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=154&v=ZV89qH9IGrA
RMweb Premium Physicsman Posted April 5, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 5, 2018 Nice video, Scott. I've never set-up a telescope on the street, but I have taken my portable telescope (a Celestron 5) to friends and watched their reaction when looking at the Moon, Jupiter and Saturn. The latter always produces " is that REALLY Saturn? Those rings don't look real!!" Jeff
RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted April 28, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 28, 2018 Hello space fans. Most of my parish is in a dark sky area. An amateur astronomer, Kevin Haworth, took a photo of the Milky Way above one of my chapels of ease, St James' Dale Head in Gisburn Forest last week.
RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted June 12, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 12, 2018 In an annual break from parish work, we are away in Wales via Chester and Hereford getting a narrow gauge fix. Today was a trip on the Vale of Rheidol as it is the nearest to the holiday cottage.

RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted June 14, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 14, 2018 (edited) After a day without NG (visited a very run down Cardigan) it was on to the Talyllyn. Some photos of engines in steam today. Talyllyn herself was on the Victorian train and was in steam for the last time before an overhaul. Our train engine was Sir Haydn Talyllyn on the Victorian train coming in to Abergynlowyn Douglas was in RAF blue to celebrate the centenary. Dolgoch was on the second service train. RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted June 15, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 15, 2018 Well it was off to the Ffestiniog today. Only Merddin Emrys in steam as very reduced time table on Fridays in June - don't know why? Diesel was also in evidence shunting coaches about in the station area. Some classic coaches. The Welsh Highland to round things off tomorrow.

mark axlecounter
I’ve just come back spending 2 weeks in Turkey. Now the boss is saying about going away in the caravan in a few weeks, I think wales might be the place. Mark
RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted June 16, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 16, 2018 Last NG journey was on the Welsh Highland. My first time over the whole route as last time I was here the connection to Porthmadog had not been made. Started off in overcast conditions at Porthmadog, then it rained almost until Caernarfon. The gradient, wet rail and stuff dripping off leaves made railhead conditions less than good on the way up and 20 minutes was lost. The sun came out before the return and even the top of Snowdon could be seen. Our train engine. At least some part was made in the UK The other service engine So, that's the NG fix over for the time being.

aberdare
Lovely pictures Jonathan, we used to spend a lot of time holidaying in Wales during the 90s and the ride on the Talyllyn was one of the rides we went on more than once, brings back fond memories of some great times. Thanks for posting. Jim
