Did you REALLY SAY 2MM FINE SCALE? good grief man, that's some challenge.

Good luck with it.

That's more than a challenge it is bordering on masochism.

With no disrespect to the OP I am struggling to relate the track plan to what I recall the layout was in the 80s.

I'm sure that there were 15 platforms then a stabling siding (or was it two) then platforms 16, 17 and 18 although I don't recall using 17 or 18. I seem to recall that there was a short stub trailing siding at the end of what is now platform 18.

Other than between platforms 15 & 16 there were only two tracks between each pair of platform faces.

Platforms 9 & 10 faced each other (as now) and were shorter than all the others. I think that they shared a common turnout at their north end so trains couldn't arrive and depart simultaneously.

I've also got a vague suspicion that the engine release crossover was still present between platforms 1 & 2.

I'm sure that the right hand most arch under the bridge (looking south) had one (and possibly two) of the backing out roads under it.

Apologies if my ageing memory has failed me even more than usual.

Hi Jeremy,

Cool! Looking forward to progress reports on this. Like the period you have selected, makes me think about operating Dallam as late eighties aswell as the 2001 era, just need alot of stock!

Cheers

...and don't forget the connection to the Royal Mail / Red Star parcels platforms, heavily overgrown today.

In 2FS, I just hope the eyesight's up to it!

I'll post more on the trackplan soon with some idea of where the platforms will be. There is one track missing as I still need to work out how to do a three way turnout on templot (any ideas welcome on that!). Thank you for your comments.

This is going to be a great project to follow, always been a fan of Euston myself and look forward to watching this develop, shall you be modelling the whole platfomr lengths, even though most of it is hidden, or will or just be the trains nosing out.

Hi,

Initially it will just be the trains nosing out, then I will model the rest of the station ( I must be mad!!!)

Best regards,

Jeremy

Martin Wynne will probably pop up in a minute and explain it in detail but I generally cheat and just lay one point over another and slide it along until all the clearances look right. I think the trick then is to remove the unwanted timbers and adjust individual rail lengths as required.

I did find another image on that web page that I think looks a bit more like the layout that I recall.

I know that platform 1 was frequently heaving with Brute trolleys but it was never out of use so I can only surmise that Horsetan's the reference to the Royal Mail platforms relates to the old down side shed that was still very much in use for carriage servicing in the 80s. The Up side (carriage) shed was also still there and used for unit storage during the midday if I remember correctly. Less use was made of the sidings at Camden then.

I'm really looking forward to watching this project move forward, AC Electrics you just can't go wrong with them (this was a sponsored message by WombatofLudham)

I took this photo 23 years ago, but unfortunately the track to the westernmost platform face had already been removed, so there is no real clue to the track layout and any further short sidings beyond that.

That's a really good photo and an angle that I haven't yet come across. Plenty of detail there and certainly very helpful. Thanks for posting!

I take it these two sidings were for stabling locos for the mail trains or were they actively used for loading?

Best regards,

Jeremy

Here is a photo that I took of the computer screen once i had finished the plan. It shows how the track was laid out over the present day google earth image but with the back dated track layout. It was a complete nightmare as I ended up printing out a whole load of photos from the internet just so I had almost every angle to hand when working out where the turnouts went. Today there are no slips but back then there were 1 single slip and three doubles from what I can gather from the photos. Still could have been worse.....I have no idea what the track layout was like back in steam days before the station was redeveloped, probably even more complicated!

I'm quite tempted to have one or two nostalgic liveried locos in the early blue with the small yellow warning panel, rake of maroon coaches in tow!

Apologies for the poor photo quality, it was taken using my phone

Best regards,

Ah! I tried comparing your Templot prints with the Quail Maps book (not the current edition: the 1990-ish one). It's Platform 8 that's missing, isn't it?
