DJ Models - J94 Update

I disagree. There is a tangible product of a lot of money invested right the there on the page above.

Vapourware might be a pertinent word to apply to something you've only been told about, but not seen proof of, but surely in this instance is an inappropriate or even misleading word, if not a tad sensationalist.

.......

I believe that the vapourware jibes and the impatient may well stem from the initial announcement of an ambitious programme spanning three scales and four prototypes. I'll also hazard an opinion that this was probably compounded by the DJM wishlist thread and other models being added to the to do list (Churchward mogul, class 59 diesel and 71 electric). The implication being that of a company on the move, ready to crack on and deliver a steady stream of new releases. It's easy to see how expectations were raised. Though it's good to see the J94 well on its way to fruition, it's only a part of the initial announcement of releases, let alone the add-ons. The best way to counter the taunts and complaints is to deliver, not to whinge.

Isn't that just what Dave is doing, showing HOW he is delivering?

I really feel that "disagreeing" with what was stated above, isn't "whinging", merely being a bit peeved that the rather large investment he made is still being moaned about.

I don't see any of the moaners taking out double mortgages and putting their necks on the line.

Honestly,

Who'd be a model railway manufacturer?

Cheers,

John E.

My apologies for the redundant posting, but wow, that looks really great.  Nice work Dave.

Andy's close up photographs there are pretty relentless, but that model stands up to the close scrutiny very well.

It's very exciting for people looking for a J94.

Ooohhrrrrrrr.  Firebox washout plugs visible through the frame cut-outs....oh yes mate, you have been looking at the real thing very closely.

Got rid of the tank mould line too, it is worth the delay for that, it is a major improvement over the 'other' one.  The injector overflow pipe is the only criticism I could raise, but that's easy to fix - if it shows, remember these photos are cruelly large.

Vapourware indeed - boll*ck$ to the doubters.

Yes all axles are powered from the coreless motor.

That's what coupling rods are for......................

:jester:

Very nice BTW - when can I have a yellow one please?

Cheers,

Mick

Er...I think he already knows that if he delivers he gets a return on his capital.I'm sure he values your "advice". The use of the term "whinge" is ,to say the least, unfortunate. But I suppose that's the price of his transparency on this forum.

Whilst a kettle like this has no requirement for me, I must say it is a very good example of what DJM standards will be. Never mind the vapourware comments, or even like me it's something you don't want or need. It stands as a good example of what to expect from future releases that you WILL want.

Good one Dave, keep raising the standards.

Trying to give balace and a alternative view for those waiting - The problem is.. it still is vapourware because we can't buy it yet!

For those that have waited, it must be noted that back in January it was officially announced that the loco was going to be out in 5/6 months.

Here we are - 6 months later - and we are being told that it wont be out for another 6 months!

I'm not knocking the product but why cant these companies be a bit more truthful with dates (or less optimistic). I know Bachmann and Hornby (less so lately) have had this problem but DJM is supposed be a 'new broom'.

There speaks a man who has never had to deal with our oriental friends.

Hi chaps,

Apologies for letting this slip under the radar.

The space available for the decoder is as follows in length as there is plenty of height........32.198mm

The speaker space is created by removing a screw in block sized as follows in the bunker...........Block W7.4mm x L29.55mm x H12.15mm

I hope this helps?

cheers

Dave

Hi Dave

Thanks for that information. Great model and while it might be a while yet, I think that I will be happy with my model when it arrives.

Great work!

David

It's the big day! Expectations building, there's an air of anticipation all around. (sings) It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas..............

Come on Dave, don the outfit and make your announcement!   :danced:

Hi Dave,

I think that model looks great and I have absolutely no complaints with what you are doing or how you are doing it. You're going to be my model loco supplier of choice if you can keep this up. Don't let any detractors put you off.

I will be buying a couple of these and I would love you to produce some more industrial locos in future.

A J94 has no place on my 'blue diesel' layout. But I do like them and (just) remember them at Bickershaw Colliery, plus it looks like its going to be superb model at a sensible price. So is there a complete list of what versions are being produced so I can make my choice?

Guest 40-something

Absolutely fantastic looking loco which Im sure will prove to be an instant hit.

I wish you all the luck with all this and the rest of the models you have announced.  If the rest are half as good as this, then they we be twice as good as the rest on the market!

How many members has RMweb got? How many railway modellers are constantly bandying the word vapourware from their own website? One?  Where's the sense of perspective?  I have every respect for the gent's modelling and some of his website blogs make me chuckle, but the animosity has begun to look suspiciously like a private war.

The j94 model looks to be a good 'un right down to its wheels. It's not a product of manly Middle Chrome Green country but hey, I'm not sexist! If DJ is working on a 14XX and a 43XX, he sounds a swell guy......
