AAAAGH.... The double slip problem has reared its ugly head again :banghead: ...locos stalling again, have took one back up for a closer inspection and found using a meter that a couple of slip rails were dead and receiving no power... they seemed to be too loose and not making contact, turning over I was able to tweak the small tabs supporting the rails and make a better connection.....why don't peco make electrofrog code 100...feeling annoyed.

anyone else had this problem?

Yes, two days ago helping a friend with an electrofrog 3-way point, except we realised it was a trap and we needed polarity switching after using a meter to work out why things weren't quite right (You learn something every day!). However, during that exercise we also found a couple of loose tabs and tightened them up from underneath. Found it best to put a bit of pressure on one end of the tab with a thin screwdriver while using another to push down on the other end of it to ensure the whole thing tightened up together.

The other thing I have done in the past is use a small amount of malt vinegar and a fine paintbrush to "paint" the disc of nickel silver you can see under the rail on the visible side of the point to ensure there is no grease interfering with connectivity between rail and disc. Just getting a brush hair or two between the rail and the disc is enough to do the job.

Hi all....all seems to be ok on the double slip saga now..no stalling!... fingers crossed, i took the opportunity while this adjustment was going on and re-laid the large curve at the far end as I noticed the bogie wheelset on the west country lifting, must have been too sharp for it.. pleased to say now sorted..

I have now started some kits to bring the scenery to life.. a wills goods shed, a wills engine shed and a ratio small signal box, all still work in progress...needing detail, weathering and finishing    :imsohappy:

Hi Dave,

Just caught up with this new layout. Superb! It's great to see another fellow GW modeller and fan on here. Cracking progress so far!

You have just got yourself another follower to your thread :)

Cheers,

Chris

Opinions please.....on the sidings side i have been thinking about a scenic break by using a iron bridge and brick or stone retaining wall and create an access road down to the  engine shed... not sure if it looks too much ......here is a mock up......

The layout is coming on nicely - I like the signals, one thing I've never managed to get round to properly!

From the pictures the bridge retaining walls seem to occupy a lot of space - the ones at the baseboard edge would perhaps limit the range of photographic opportunities later on, just a thought.

Regards

Hi les ..I agree with the retaining wall..its just a mock up too see what could be done, I have cut the board edge side walls down, maybe just a bridge abutment with small wing walls would be better on that side... :)

Track navvy"s  have been busy today... have re-laid a section behind the goods shed where there was two points and a head shunt... it was niggling me how the coaches went around and switching directions like a snake... looked horrid.. what I did was replaced  them with a curved point, it looks better .. gives  a bit more room and flows better as the coaches go around.....happy now.. :)
