  1. Thanks guys : I previously had a cheap DMM and before it died it would measure in the same 13.3v area. And the Fluke is an old entry level model (but still a Fluke). I bought the Brymen to replace the dead one after many recommendations that this brand and model is excellent. I'm too cheap to afford an oscilloscope but I will try the bridge rectifier suggestion and measure the DC voltage. Thanks again ... must be a function of the Brymen.
  2. Starting to wire up a new switching layout that is under construction and so I use my DMM (multimeter) to roughly check track voltages after soldering up the initial couple of feeders to my dcc bus wires. The DMM showed an AC voltage of 2.8v. That can't be right so I connected my Fluke DMM and it reads 13.3v AC which is about what I was expecting. The first DMM is a new autoranging, high spec Brymen and correctly measures the DC supply voltage to the DCC command station. Anybody got any clues as to why the Brymen measures 2.8v when the actual voltage is 13.3v?
  3. Hi there Jon : This entire modelling thread is just sensational. Congratulations on providing such a fantastic wealth of information on signal modelling and thanks for sharing it with us in such a friendly manner. Your construction methods are first rate, as are the accompanying photos. I look forward to seeing more of your handiwork on this forum ... i just love it. Best regards,
  4. I like this shot because i wanted to capture the extreme weathering of the sleeper, both in the deterioration of the timber and it's bleaching to almost white. I also wanted to contrast the aging of the rail showing the degree of pitting of the steel. Maybe it's just as well that trains no longer run on this line. Location is at Coolac goods station on the abandoned branch line between Cootamundra (junction with mainline) and Batlow terminus in New South Wales, Australia.
  5. Hello Rick - those lamps are really impressive, very well done! I'm in the UK and as a beginner have chosen to work in 5.5mm scale on 16.5mm track ... wish me luck ... Regards

  6. 28 : A terrific looking model engine. Like several modellers on this forum, you are a craftsman and it's a pleasure to view your posts and see the work being done. I particularly like the belpaire firebox on that model ... it "makes" it for me. I can't really help you with your construction dilemmas although i have full sympathy with you. It can be agonising to decide the best method to accomplish a task, especially when you are also thinking about the next ten steps in the construction that need to be taken into consideration. As for the glass in the windows i think i'd be trying to build a slot into the side walls of the cab to enable a glass piece to be slid into place after the painting is finished. Best regards,
  7. Been making 4 classification lamps for my Backwoods garratt in 7mm scale .... my eyes are hurting!

  8. A good question Pete ... been wondering the same thing. Jazz ?
  9. Hey there Crewe North : That's just sensational modelling ... and beautiful photos to go with it too. Oh, and the textures and colours on the struuctures are very convincing also ... no doubt a positive when modelling to your scale. I love the cobbles. Maybe you could give us a rundown on how you went about doing the cobbles so convincingly ? Please? Best regards,
  10. Certainly a very impressive piece of modelling there; both in size and quality. It looks terrific. Well done so far.
  11. Very pretty indeed. Another masterpiece Richard. And though my own 7mm modelling concentrates on things a lot narrower in gauge, i find your models to be very inspiring.
