Guidance on the use of the RMWeb forum
Welcome to RMWeb, we hope you'll enjoy your time here and will come to view RMWeb as your online railway-modelling club.
The forum is split into several sections with different discussions taking place in each one.
A brief description of each area is given and you are asked to adhere as closely as possible to the subject and topics in each area.
There are specific rules for the forum that you would be well advised to acquaint yourself with. You did, after all, agree to be bound by them when you joined. There are also matters of forum etiquette or code of behaviour that will help you, and your fellow members, to enjoy the forum experience.
To gain the respect of your fellow members it is necessary for you to show respect in turn. Many ages, abilities and points of view are represented in the forum and, as a newcomer; you may feel out of place somewhat.
A gentle approach to begin with will always pay dividends. Take your time to explore the various subjects being discussed and then, when you're ready, introduce yourself and ask your question or give your view of the subject under discussion.
Many new members make the mistake of expressing their views in too forceful a manner, or asking too many questions, too quickly. There is a search function at the top of the page that will allow you to access a wealth of subjects that have already been discussed. You'll probably find the answer to your query here straight away without having to wait for someone to respond to a question on line.
Some Do's and Don'ts
Don't use bad language, it isn't clever and can get you into trouble very quickly.
Don't hijack a thread, keep to the subject under discussion if at all possible and don't try to take over a discussion or ask unrelated questions.
Don't use all CAPITAL LETTERS it's considered to be shouting and can annoy people very easily.
Don't use TXT SPK it is best avoided if you want to be understood.
Politics, Religion and Sex are considered OFF LIMIT subjects
Do Use a spell checker before you post your contribution if you have a problem with spelling, or type out your contribution in a word processing program, check the grammar and spelling, then copy and paste it into the forum reply window.
Do, if you're having problems or want advice, contact one of the Moderators. They're there to oversee the running of the forum and to enforce the rules but they can also advise on aspects of forum protocol and assist if you're having problems with uploading photos for instance.
Do, explore the forum, there's a huge amount of information on here with photos and videos. Many of the members post links to their own websites and other items of interest.
Do, enjoy RMWeb, we think it's one of the best forums there is!..But were biased.
