About this blog

The design and build of an imaginary railway based in Northumberland. This is my second attempt at a blog following a serious rethink of the direction my modelling was taking. This time I’m trying to be less of a perfectionist as I have proved to myself that the pursuit of such traits most frequently leads to disappointment and more importantly a lack of running trains!

Northumberton - Further Metcalfe Modifications

Hi again, a quick update and a description of some working doors I have fitted to a Metcalfe engine shed. The track is almost all down now, I want to spray this with a black/brown mist coat before finally connecting everything up. This also looks better in the tunnels where I will not be ballasting. I have been experimenting with my laser cutter (X-Tool D1 Pro) which has proved to be better than I had hoped. If you have ever considered starting your own blog I would highly recommend it to you. Even if few or any read your work, it is extremely useful for taking stock of progress and clarifying your thoughts for the next phase. I was extremely busy from about last October on some major DIY on the house, no complaints, I feel very lucky to have the time being retired. But now my thoughts return to my railway modelling. Temporary Station using Metcalfe Kits

Hi My 3D printer is on hold at the moment so in a bid to get my trains up and running I'm working on a temporary station using Metcalfe kits. I have promised myself that the proposed model of Acklington station will prevail eventually but I want to get trains fully operational by Christmas. I have found since I started this layout that approximate deadlines help to keep things moving and like most of the children I used to teach I leave everything until the last minute!   So,
