Electricity and Fuel?

Hi   Having spent a few hours putting together the Knightwing security fence for my electricity substation on the depot, i stood back to admire and realised I had put it next to a fuelling point AAAAARGH!   Needless to say the planning department would not issue completion certificate until it was moved!   The trials of modelling:lol:

Personal Stupidity!

Despite several warnings from my better half about the dangers of superglue (not to me of course but to her suffering the indignity of a second visit to casualty with a...well.... daft partner!) I had a superglue disaster. Not to myself fortunately but to one of my points. I stuck a junction box beside it with superglue and the excess ran through the ballast and stuck the point..FAST! All well that ends well I suppose and after donating another £10 to my local model shop (Gus at Invergowrie-

Casting the web for detail (In Plaster-idiot moi!)

Whilst partially disabled on my right hand it has been over to the left hand to add some detail to Glasburgh MPD! Much trickier than anticipated however a start has been made to adding little bits of detail to the sheds and track. Another couple of locos are off to Jason for fitting of lights. They are due back from his 'works' soon. here are a couple of shots taken today

New and Old Arrivals at Glasburgh

What a busy day for the depot staff. The postman delivered a Class 50 037 in blue (purchased second hand from one of our RM members through classified) and my Class 40 169 back from Jason's with its directional lighting and cab lighting fitted. What a difference that makes! Class 50 was fitted with a chip stolen from a Heljan 47 which can either get replaced later or sold and anothe Bachmann 47 bought. The Class 40 awaits buffer beam detail fitting but the charge hand is in plaster (literally-i

Depot floor looking better

After much sanding etc and the beginning of some weathering things are beginning to look better. Much happier with this than what was there before. took the opportunity to change the lights inside two of the sheds as well. The interior lighting shows up the inspection pits better. they are now ready for internal detailing when funds allow.

Ready Mix Cement!

After a gap of sailing and actually running my collection I have returned to work on the scenery. Looking at other depot layouts has made it obvious that the track/ground areas of parts of the depot need, well starting again. The bold decision to rip up things that are working is a tricky one but I think will be worth it. The Ready Mix guys have been in and after sanding and weathing will look much better I hope.

Hi   Just fitted my new light tower by CR_Signals. Excellent detail and looks very good. Think I will have to get a second one sometime!

New Points at Tunnel Mouth

Well,   After much chopping, scratching and work with a chisel the old track was extracted from it's ballast at the tunnel mouth. A new longer point was put into mainline from tunnel mouth so that I can enjoy agood 20 or 47 thrash away from signal at entrance to tunnel. Now the loco can actually go a distance rather that the short hop to the shed. it would of course be much easier to plan this all before laying but why do it the easy way. In any case I needed to replace a broken point in coach

Improved Weathering

Hi   Here are a couple of photos of the weathering re done as suggested. Mk1 looks much better (compare old heavy weathering with new version). I am also pleased how the new super fine ballast looks. Much better than previous rocks! Few new ground signals as well.   Chris

Detailing?

Well... My brother finally shamed me into doing some detailing of my locos including weathering of some. I have decided to have a mix of lightly weathered, the odd filthy one and some pristine examples. I have also begun the task of weathering my limited coaching stock. I have weathered a Bachmann Mk1 Brk as I remember one at Perth 'behind the wall' that was pretty dirty. I have also lightly weathered my Mk3 Sleepers. (Photos of that one later. Recent purchases following sale of my Olivia's De

Sound Chip re Blown

Hi all   As a present to myself (40 again!) I sent off my oldest chip a SWD class 47 to Howes to be reprogrammed with their class 47 sounds. Excellent value for money and well worth it. Much clearer tones and more sound options that I can mess around with. I particularly like the fact that the air tank tick is on a seperate sound function (8) so you can leave it on as long as you like. The existing recording went off after a few seconds. Also more variety in horn tones and a better take off so

'Just another brick in the wall'

Well, in the words of a Pink Floyd song 'just another brick in the wall' has been this week's theme! My birthday present from my wife (would love to have heard this birthday present explained in the staff room!) some retaining walls has arrived. The local 'brickies' from Glasburgh have been out with their cement and trowels and the walls are taking shape. I had already fitted a few bits near loco depot but the latest parts around the raised section finally make it look like part of the layout

Coaching and Rolling stock

Not room for much on a layout this size. I had a lot of coaching stock on my previous layout but managed to fit in a few carriage sidings and a bit of static station.     Stock to date   Bachmann mark 2 stock (superb) 2 TSO 1 1st BSK 1 Mk1Restaurant car   2 Hornby Mk3 Sleepers 2 Bachmann Pullman Cars   1 Bachmann Mk 1Newspapers Full Brake 1 Bachmann Mk 1 Full Brake

DCC Sound-A Logical Step

I took the decision to purchase a South West Digital Sound Chip for one of my Heljan 47s with some surlpus cash from stock sale. The difference this made was fantastic. Instant transportation back to circa 1980. I have decided that over time all locos will be sound fitted and probably weathered as well. It is certainly an aim to have them all equiped with lights. This will take a long time as it is very cost prohibitive! To date I have 47 035 -Bachmann fitted with SWD sound chip, 20 192 Bachmann

layout operation DCC

I took the decision to sell off a lot of stock and re equip the new layout with BR blue era stock. This was what we grew up with living in Monifieth (which is on the main East Coast Line between Dundee and Aberdeen) I spent many days travelling on trains between Arbraoth and Edinburgh using a handy mini rover ticket which cost ??6.50 for 1 week unlimited travel! It also included Perth. My brother (taybridge) has also posted his layout Glasgow George Square on this site which is of a similar time

Layout basics- Why and where.

Hi all   Finally started to transfer my entries from old site. Will start with a bit of history. Following a house move to a smaller house I lost my 'shed' and have only got one side of a spare bedroom to work on. There were further conditions applied by 'the Planning Department' (wife) that it had to look a bit like furniture and leave the room available for guest use (kids!). The layout base is thus on top of a series of clothes drawers down one side of the room. Measures approx 9.5 feet b
