Coastguard Creek - 15 months of planning!

    By SouthernRegionSteam

Hold on to your socks - this is going to be a lengthy one! (In fact it's so long, I've now split it into 2 separate posts - the next will be up soon...)   I think it's fair to say that you are all long overdue an update on Coastguard Creek. Due to other commitments, no real progress has been made since the last post way back in March 2021; almost 15 months ago! If anything, things went backwards for quite a while, as I kept finding more and more inspiring locations that I really wanted

Using up holiday

a resin kit from an ex about two years ago, this is a SAR diagram aa28 kitchen car (which should be paired with a suitable diner from memory... I am still trying to work out what goes where on the inside, details being sketchy to say the least, its since been primed, in readiness for a grey/gulf red paint job.   onto the banger blue projects, I picked up a 15 quid lima 31 and a bachy 46 up at cheltenham, the latter being ex pallet lane stock (cheers dan).     on the peak I have tried to t

Northgate Baseboard construction Pictures

Hi and thanks for tuning in again!   These pics and designs have been taken/drawn over a few months (said it would be slow). This is the design of the boards and how they will all connect up:     As you can see there will be 6 boards, the scenic side will be 8' by 18" with the run round and fiddle yard a bit bigger. I have built just the 2 scenic boards so far and will not build the rest until I have figured out where to store all the boards.     First few cuts, using a slotting bla

2-Bil update 28/10/2009

I'm still plodding away with the roof. This is the current state of play: The ventillators are some very nice NNK castings. The periscopes are from Branchlines, and the electrical cabling is a mixture of plastic rod and wire (mainly steel guitar wire, with some brass for the short cross cables) on Southern Pride turned supports.   There's still quite a lot to do on the roof, but having drawings and some decent photos helps quite a lot compared to the EPB.

2-Bil - rescued from the old forum

EMU workbench   by pete_mcfarlane   original page on Old RMweb __________________________________________ Comment posted by number6 on Mon Jul 20, 2009 3:13 pm   Enjoying your rapid progress as usual Pete! As Dave says the bowing of the BIL is the biggest pain - make sure you make the floor rigid or it will go banana shaped before you can say "roof conduit".   Is the unpowered pick-up bogie basically the same design as the powered but just without motors? I used a spare pair of white m

MLV and 2-EPB - rescued from the old forum

EMU workbench   by pete_mcfarlane   original page on Old RMweb __________________________________________   ??? posted on Thu Dec 06, 2007 11:49 pm   A couple of DC Kits EMUs on my work bench.   The MLV was bought at Wakefield a couple of weeks ago. Basic construction is now complete (in 2 weeks, which must be a record for me).     Now awaiting underframe and end details. I'm planning on using the Southern Pride underframe mouldings in place of the etches that comes with the kit.

DC Kits class 71 - rescued from the old forum

DC Kits Class 71   by pete_mcfarlane   original page on Old RMweb __________________________________________   ??? posted on Sun Nov 18, 2007 12:42 am   Finished my Class 71 this evening. I bought it at the Derby show in April 2006, so this must be one of my quickest builds ever Apologies for the slightly ropey pictures but I'm still working out how to take photos of models with my ancient digital camera.   It's a DC kits resin body and whitemetal bogies. This is a really good kit -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRUJqdbu6VU   Air Date:   17th August 2008   These are the stories they tell...   It is the start of a new order on British Railways...the advent of the diesel locomotives. Gronk, the new diesel shunter, and Hawk, the western pannier tank, run into a spot of bother with the shunting...   If I may make a confession...I love my 94xx pannier tank. I bought it on a whim a very long time ago, and when its motor died out some time after shooting Episod

Here we go.....

I'm afraid I've not got to grips with the new form of rmweb yet. For me it's like going into the local supermarket and finding most of the shelves have been rearranged; very disconcerting. So much so that I sent an email to Andy last night asking how to unsubscribe from all this hassle. His diplomatic reply made me wonder if I can use the changes on rmweb to my advantage.   So rather than grumble about things as I so often do, I thought I'd be constructive and actually get some modelling done.

Some oldies

Whilst sorting out the photo albums I found these, they are all pre 1906 (:icon_wave: Buckjumper, Mikkel) stock any questions fire away The first two wagons are from WEP kits modified with sprung axleguards         Something Broad Gauge - a tilt wagon from a BGS kit       An E26 from CPL side with slaters bogies, the rest is scratchbuilt       Finally that rarest of things a finished project!! this coach is 20 years old I didn't know about the inner brown lining on

Retaining Walls taking shape

Today's efforts have seen progres on the retaining walls that will run around the edge of the small diesel shed area. These are obviously a Scalescenes kit. I did buy a Scalescenes Diesel Depot but I have entirely lost patience with it - I'm sure they are good when finished but there is just far too much cutting of cardboard for my liking. Anyway back to the retaining walls; they still require a fair bit of cutting but since they take shape much quicker it is easier (for me at least) to maintain

Pacesetting... (excuse the pun)

The Hornby Pacer is an aging model with an appalling mechanism. However despite it's age and mechanical inadequacies I think it really captures the look of the prototype really really well, and am interested to see how it will respond to some gentle improvements.   Rose Hill is a slow burn project - and I've settled on no specific stock purchases (although if successful I may splash out on a 101 and 150!!) and so my original Pacer was dug out from Mum and Dad's a few weeks ago for evaluation

Summer Progress

So bringing the blog up to date after very little progress over the summer due to work and hols. Ballasting of the two main lines is complete at last as is most of the carriage sidings trackwork.   I was rather taken by a Virgin Voyager advertised for sale here on RMweb so I now have yet another piece of rolling stock that doesn't really fit with the geography .... but it will do for fun until the layout is finished.     A couple of years back at Warley I bought a very cheap Heljan plasti

Missys Q1 Chop Shop Part II

Hello   After removing the huge joint inbetween the engine and tender for a smaller, finer brass one I was left with a huge hole and a rather blank cab so tonight I quickly put together a kind of cab just so it doesnt look as blank. Its not prototypical or anything and it was quickly glued together but hopefully it fills the gap ok. The new joint is now going through the firebox door.   BEFORE...   AFTER...   Next is the tender...   Missy

Railcar's chassis

Following a question I have shown my simple chassis arrangements. Its not going to please the rivet counters but then again I do not think they would use a MTK kit. The seats are old MTK ones for a DMU so are not quite correct.   The main part of the chassis is a piece of PCB board,I then soldered 2 coach W irons to it. I made a motor mount from some brass sheet and added a DC10 motor with 30/1 Romford gears. I added 2 square bits of brassbetween the W irons for added stiffness. 8ba bolts so
