Finally got the Ex Manchester Pilcher Pullman Car CAD looking something like, this is version 3.5, it has been a struggle, the Pilchers being built 1930-32 where somewhat ahead of their time, but stil had many traditional features, such as rocker panel sides and seperate dashes, I understand that this was to utilise Std Manchester compononents so whilst looking fairly different to their bogie standard predecessors there is still a family resemblance.

Version 1 of the Pilcher looked like Darth Vaders helmet, the actual cars are quite subtle in their design, they don't seem to have a flat panel on them anywhere, that and the fact that most if not all the drawings are not quite right (from people who knew and travelled on the cars) make it a difficult subject, anyway a couple of pics

I must admit I really fancy a 7mm version in full lined out Manchester red and white (wonder why M/cr is never associated with sky blue?) I have a 7mm P35 truck and the correct stairs and controllers.......

Better get a 4mm test print done first, then build some 4mm ones for Grime St, Leeds bought 7 Pilchers from Manchester and I could legitimately have 4 in different liveries (light blue, dark blue, overall red or red with an ivory band) pretty much all around the same period, plus a khaki one a couple of years earlier, the mind boggles as to what the paint shop at Kirkstall Road was doing at any given time!

You can make that five liveries - they appeared in both Princess Blue with white band and the post-48 Matterface blue without.

Yeah, forgot about the variations in the Blue livery, I think a light blue one (that really goes against the grain!) might be first, although it might look a bit much with its silver roof, finding a good match for the light blue isn't easy as every photograph seems to be a different shade, possibly to do with the film as much as anything.

Yeah, the silver roof might need a fair bit of weathering to look real, but I wouldn't be as bad as the 'polychromatic' blue (metallic?) used in 1949 on the dome roof cars.

As for matching the light blue - just pick the one you like best!

Don't like any light blues, brings me out in a rash! I think there's a colour in the Plasatikote range that doesn't look too far off the published light blue Pilcher pics, that might be the closest with a fair bit of weathering so it doesn't stand out too much in the murky environs of Grime Street.
