Exhibition woes..........

Red Devil

After many long hours trying to get the extension to Grime St ready for it's first exhibition, it was reasonably close to being finished, not fully done but 'good enough' although at twenty to one on Friday morning I was close to retiring from the exhibition circuit.....

Then disaster, I managed to catch half the overhead wires on one board and snag them whilst loading the van Friday lunchtime and if the toys weren't out of the pram then, they certainly were when I managed to damage the point motor wiring on the other board whilst unloading at Beamish Friday afternoon.

If there was a skip handy it may have ended up in there........

Anyway after setting up, I managed to get the tow circuits running fine and the overhead wiring was fixed by opening time on Saturday, however I still had problems with the point motors, but with a bit perseverance and lots of swearing they were sorted by lunchtime, then the live feeds to the terminal stub decided that they weren't going to play......Good job it wasn't bonfire night!

Suitably refreshed by a decent curry and a few pints in South Shields (Ocean Rd has got to be one of the most densely populated Indian Restaurant areas in the UK), I managed to cobble together the wiring and Grime Street began to actually run like it was intended, still a few teething problems, but generally getting better as it settled in, if it had of got any worse I seriously think that the skip would beckon!

So a few thinks to work on and plenty of stuff that needs finishing and detailing before next time out, then work can continue on the small 'instension' board for the cyclist and Faller road vehicles circuit.

I didn't get much chance to take many decent photos, but here's a few to give the 'Norther Grot' flavour....

Big thanks to Paul (PLD) Derrick for having an operating stint, as it gave me a bit of a break.....

Woah !!

This looks massively different to the Grime Street I used to know - and so much better for it if I may say so.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I firmly feel I'm somewhere between around 1947 - 1952. That immediate post-war atmosphere is definitely strong!

Yup, the era is aimed at '49-54, so thanks for 'getting' that! I do fancy doing an area of post war slum clearance/bomb damage to emphasize the period even more, the 'new' shop with the maroon signboard is going to be a Motorcycle shop, I need to fit the interior on several of the new buildings but I just didn't have time.

I don't want to be a spoilsport but, unless my memory is failing me, I can't remember seeing either buses or trams of the type shown in Leeds in the period specified, although I stand to be corrected. Otherwise, it looks great and realistic.

The austerity car 275, was painted in the red livery (unlined) 29-5-1954, having been in red and white lined from 23-12-1951, the West Riding Bristols were introduced in 1954, So it's at the tail end of the intended period.

The works Car No6 (Ex Hull 96) was also painted grey during this period having previously been in a buff livery applied in 1948, this one is next for heavy weathering as it was pretty shabby with patches of buff paint showing through on the matchboarded front ends.

The period chosen is so that it allows me to run Railcoach 600 which was introduced into traffic on the 6th of August 1954
