Friedrichstrasse

We have finally taken delivery of all the boards for Friedrichstrasse (note the spelling has now changed!) Now was the task to drill the bolt holes whilst seeing how the boards fit together.

The scenic area is quite a bit lower than the fiddleyard boards. This is because the entire length of the visible track will be carried on a viaduct above the town. It will present us with a lot of challenges, but who ever said this layout building lark was easy?!

A main scenic feature will be the canal cutting through the centre of the scene. It looks very shallow at the moment...

The fiddleyard track is now complete, and the wiring has started. I'm not sure if we'll be running that once the layout is finished! The three Roco coaches at the back are more in keeping...

There is a lot of space to fill with town...even if it is in H0. There will also be a working tram system threading its way around the front.

The layout plan is more more or less complete, essentially it was completed to enable the front boards to be constructed, now it is just a case of some little tweaking before work presses ahead on the viaduct and station superstructure; required before we put the track down.

Progress Indeed! :sungum:

Other Bits:

Time is fast approaching for our club's annual open day. Put it in your diaries - Sunday 27th October. More details on our website

Also, we will be taking Yamanouchi Oshika to Wycrail on 2nd November.

There are very few big Japanese layouts on the circuit, with the Raven's concentrating on Z gauge for the moment (Katumi Mitsu already retired), and Ron Upton's Temple Falls being retired at the end of this year, this is pretty much it for a big N gauge J-trains layout; certainly in the South of England.

As mentioned previously, Yamanouchi Oshika was to be retired itself, but a change in storage facilities has lead to a reprieve. It is available for exhibitions, so if any managers are out there and interested in a Japanese layout, feel free to either contact me via PM or let a member of the committee know..
