Barbed wire nightmare!
OK, so I probable was getting too confident! Have now hit a brick wall with my barbed wire (groan!). Having perfected my picket posts and even making them a lovely rusty colour I came to plant them. Of course the wire is not strong enough to just push them through the plaster scenery so pushed a small hole through with a drill. Problem - hole is so small and completely invisible bellow the static grass and brown paint! Admittedly I am trying to do this at silly O'clock and the light is not good. Eventually found an LED head lamp and a technique of dragging the end of the drill up to deposit a tiny patch of white plaster from below so got half a dozen posts planted.
Next the wire. I have got some absolutely exquisitely etched 1/48th barbed with from a Czech company called Eduard. It is quite simply the finest etching I have ever seen. It is made from 10 though nickle silver and you can just tear strips off, no need to cut it. It is almost like a very, very fine fret saw blade. Right next problem - getting it through the eyes in the posts. Of course it just wants to snag up all the time and eventually break. I struggled on and have got one and a half strands done but was not a pleasant task.
If my patience for this does not hold out I have a couple of other plans;
Rather than thread it through I could wrap it around the posts.
Or, I could just use plain wire instead.
Just come up with another one - I could wire it up on the desk and then try to plant a complete section - worth a try!
