The last boards

blog-0285269001384561888.jpgHave put the other end of the layout away for a bit and have started on the final boards at the other end - not quite as complete as I remembered! It has taken two days to get them sorted out. Tidying up the wiring on the traverser board seemed to take ages and had to lay the run off roads. Had to finish off the track work on the other board after adjustments in the summer - seems a very long time ago. Here it is in a state where trains could actually be run!

After this I slapped a load of brown acrylic paint on the white foam board and this afternoon took the whole lot outside and airbrushed all the track work - I will never ever paint rails by hand again! Then it was out with the soil mixture. Almost a disaster here as found that the wife had been using my carefully sterilised and sieved supply to pot bulbs! Guess it makes up for all those times I have eaten something from the fridge that she had earmarked for greater things than my late night munchies! Anyway, just enough left to finish the job but anyway have quarter of an acre of the stuff out there in reserve!

Here we have it all ballasted and only just in time as seem to have run out of wine which is as most important ingredient in the exercise as as any amount of PVA or drops of washing up liquid. In actual fact have now done away with both of the later as now using Astonish floor polish to great effect.

Can get rid of the fiddle yard now for a bit which is good as being a few inches longer than the other boards is meaning that the office door won't open fully and many fingers have been caught and toes stubbed. Unfortunate bit of this is that I now have to start making semi destroyed buildings which is going to be rather interesting!

A glass of wine is a great aid to modelling - so long as you don't pick up the wrong glass and end up with a mouthful of pva :))
