Cobalts Sorted!

KH1

blog-0781125001387540525.jpgAfter a great deal of fiddling and annoyance I have finally managed to get the Cobalt point motors working off the DCC controller. It turns out that while still in programing mode and giving them a number you had to press '1' to actually switch them on - not in the instructions this one! So now I have no excuse but to get down to it an build the control panels. Hang on - wasn't the reason for getting the DCC versions that I wouldn't need a panel? Well, yes it was but I do want route selection LEDs and the Cobalts do have a very handy function where a momentary contact switch can be wired in as well for manual control as well. A bit more flexible and the wiring will be an awful lot easier. Nipped to B+Q this morning and bought six core alarm wire but have not decided on material for panel front yet. Looked at a small sheet of aluminum but was £12 and a bit thin. Small sheet of steel cheaper at £6 but won't be as easy to cut. Thinking then about perspex or even MDF. Might just do a working mock up first to see how I get on.

if you are still thinking ally  then pop to your local scrap yard or council recycling depot  and see it they have any   freezers or fridges you could  cut  a side off.    one benefit is its already  painted white

Do what I did, pop to your local secondary school, speak to the tech teacher, and get it printed onto plastic sheet with their laser cutter, they also etched in the name, more recently they have cut me a selection of railway curves in varying radii, all for a four pack of lager.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I popped into Maplins today but none of their boxes were quite right, need one a bit longer I think so will have a search and see if somewhere else does them. School thing was a good suggestion apart from fact they have just broken up for Christmas!
