Box - now a 'pointless' exercise...
You may remember (back in the mists of time!) that the quarry siding unprototypically joined the 'Up Main' just before 'Potley Lane Bridge' (the scenic break).
In 'real life' the siding actually ran on for another mile or so to Corsham station...
I've been giving some consideration to the future of this (and other) layouts. The original intention was to use 'box Quarry' as a 'test bed' and somewhere to run 2mm stock as it was constructed. It would run between two cassette-type fiddleyards. The EVENTUAL aim is to recreate 'Moreton-in-Marsh' in 2mm as a junction for the 'EM' branch. MIM will obviously require a much larger stock storage area than 'Box' i.e. a 'ladder-type' f/y. Light-bulb moment - why not make ONE f/y to serve both layouts? The drawback to Box's planned 'end-to-end' arrangement is that neither end will be big enough to store 'main-line' type services (a 'King' + 10 is still my dream...), HOWEVER, construct a 'roundy-roundy' with a rear fiddleyard would resolve the situation.
Next issue - the present scenic length of 'Box' would only allow a a small f/y anyway... Solution? Extend the line toward 'Corsham' (no point in going west - the Tunnel itself is definitely NOT scenic!). This would also allow the 'siding' to be closer to the prototype length (Ain't 2mm good!). SO -
The P/W gang moved in again... Fortunately the track had not been laid, so it only required removal of the trackbase and substitution of plain track....
At the mo' the track is only roughly aligned - having just returned from a major dental extraction I'm in no mood physically or mentally to finally align the track whilst fixing it permanently in place!
I'll be back when the pain subsides...
