Kidderminster and Afterwards

I think that a good time was had by all at the 2mm do at Kidderminster on Saturday. I certainly enjoyed myself and St Ruth performed with its revised control panel... when we weren't just nattering that is. I'm not sure how many times we got through the schedule, but I think it's far to say that the pace was more leisurely than normal. Another welcome innovation was the snazzy barstool provided by Pauline in the 'front of house' department. I also got to have a look in the new demo signal box that's being connected up just along from the museum.

A few photos that I took on the day...

We even bring our own punters these days! All part of the service.

Mr Clifford spearheading the Association's new 'early years' initiative.

Yesterday four of the St Ruth crew went up to the GCR at Quorn for the unofficial continuation of the 2mm do... along with Missy, 2mm Andy and Ed Sissling at least. The highlights for me were Kingswear in 2FS - a beautiful rendition of the place where my first ever train journey began, the 'Overlord' layout (more of a collection of models than a layout but some very fine models at that) and getting a run behind 'Gordon Highlander' on the big railway - marvellous sound even if it was running just one engine.

Didn't know that was going on - only live 200 yards away!

I didn't know that it was there, and I live across the road! Would have popped in.
Sorry you missed it. Any idea what we could have done differently that would have let you know this was planned?

I always know when there is a postcard or photo fair as there are little posters on the lamp posts, same for Swiss rail group. If it was in Railway Modeller I have to shamefully say that I missed it but best thing is probably to talk about it here! The up side of this though is that have found out that 'wollastonblue' must live very close indeed!

I live by St Ambrose Church, and went down to Kidderminster SVR Station on Saturday to collect some tickets the 1940s weekend. I even went down the platform to check out the 5mt that has just come back into operation. There was nothing to say that this was going on. I would suggest maybe a date on the RMWeb events and exhibition calender. I would have thought though that the SVR would have put some form of notice up though.

Thanks both for your comments. I'll pass these on to the Association's events officer. FYI there was a big yellow '2mm' sign with an arrow on the platform although it didn't convey any details about the event. The Supermeet is mainly aimed at members although non members are very welcome. As such I don't think that it is advertised in the modelling press but in addition to members-only channels, it was trailed on the 2mm forum here and the 'see St Ruth at' sidebar on this blog. The RMWeb calendar seems like a good idea to me, as do local notices in advance of those occasions when we are at a railway related venue (last year it was a rugby club).

There was a thread in the exhibitions section on here as well as one in the 2mm area in the Special Interests section. It wasn't added to the RMweb event calender because I forgot (plus I don't know how it works!)

The event wasn't advertised by the SVR because I doubt they knew it was on - we hire the room from the railway museum, and to be honest, advertising it to mum dad + 2.4 children isn't really who the event is aimed at (and they would probably be disappointed at what exhibits there were there (quantity not quality)). As Andy says, it's pretty much a members day with entry available to interested others. As next year will be the 55th birthday of the 2mm Scale Assoc. then the plan is to have a bigger event and advertise it more widely.

Btw, nice photos Andy.

Andy

Edit to clarify a point.

Like the photos, we do need to get Publicity sorted. BTW I dont think MD+2.4 would be disappointed with ST Ruth it would be more the number of layouts.
