OMWB - the 'EM' test track

I needed something fairly light today - migraine yesterday, not helped by having to finish a 'distance-learning' course (but thats another story!)

So on with the scenics for the test track... First job (between rain showers) was to use a baby surform to finalise the 'rough' shape:-

and it was then fixed in place using a spray adhesive (Rolabond)

Whilst this one SMELLS like 'Evo-Stick' its not so fierce and works with just about everything. It is, however a bit messy so the floor got another clean - this time with white spirit...

Next was the usual process of covering the foam with a mesh. Usual?? This is a new type of 'plasterers scrim' - rather stiff and unwieldy -

so I initially held it down with staples!

Then back to the usual process - covering it with modelling powder. Did I say 'usual'?? In this case the 'modelling powder' is in fact a gypsum-based product from 'Artex' called 'Easi-fill'. Being from 'Artex' I'm pretty certain that it is nearly identical to the powders supplied by scenic modelling outlets - but at £17 for 5 kg is probably a lot cheaper! The first layer was mixed to a smooth paste and is my usual practice, a good dollop of PVA was added -

Once dried, the area was covered by a second layer, stiffer than the first and sculpted to give (what I hope to be) a 'rough scrubland' base with a little stream running from the culvert -

More later,

Nicce work. The old cotton scrim tape was more flexible but not as strong. The Easi=fil I have used came from Gyproc probably similar stuff.

Not sure why you bothered with the scrim. Amongst the benefits of extruded poly are that it is easily shaped and will take almost any form of surface filler directly. I prefer Sculptamold because of its light weight.

Hi Nick -

Old fashioned - and the 'Easi-fill' was left over from a rebuilding prject (and cheap)!
