Class 66 in Freightliner livery

A model I made recently was of a class 66 in Freightliner livery. It is from a RJH kit and was reasonably good to put together. It has both bogies powered and pickup is on one bogie going through to the second bogie which then returns the current to the rails. While I was working on this kit there were a few areas of concern: The fuel tank was particularly troublesome to form, (to be honest I did not make a good job of it)

I also decided to put a thin brass overlay over the `light` tabs, (the kit was originally designed as a class 59)

BUT the worst part was that of the lower cab fronts. These slope outwards to the top, and,if you followed the instructions it would mean that you could not remove the body base plate as the cab consoles were fitted inside the cab area !! Did the designer of this kit even bother to make the loco ?? On the subject of design I have seen some pretty scrappy attempts at instruction lists in my time but the instructions for this kit were pathetic ! I had to do a lot of research and take photos of the prototype to help me with construction.

The finished loco was spray painted with JLTRT green freightliner paint and the yellow was also a spray paint. The transfers,( I HATE the word `decals, we do not live in America !! ) were from Fox and the orange lining was a product I found at my loco hobby shop, it was intended for radio controlled aircraft but makes a pretty decent lining, (it was sprayed with orange paint from Precision paint before attaching to the loco) The lowere yellow line is also from the same maker of the lining tape.
