Ruston LAT/LBT progress with etched bits
On Friday night I started to look at the Ruston bits. The bits for the horn-guides were pretty good.
The bearing is held in a carrier which then springs in the elongated hole in the carrier. These were made up and then epoxied onto the chassis and the wheels test fitted.
We now have a chassis that rolls.
A close-up of the horn block shows the bearing end in the guide, this will get covered with a bit of plastic in the end but I wanted to make sure that the springing was going to work first.
Also I tried to make up the bonnet cover which folds up over the top of the plastic part I made up on the laser cutter. I also soldered up the oval surround and grill and tried it for size.
I've not fastened anything to the bonnet yet because I think I'll probably have another go at cutting it. I realized I can extend the little tabs I'd put on the bonnet partitions down through the foot plate I can make a little fastening that allows the bonnet to be held in place but still be removable. That is the trouble with this laser cutter lark, because it just take 5 minutes to cut another version and the materials are a few pence I keep 'go back for another go' whereas if i was doing it all by hand I'd just plough on and fettle it to fit....
