They're Taking Shape!

The baseboards are taking shape, perhaps a little more slowly than I would have liked but a couple of stupid errors have slowed things down a bit, the biggest of which was briefly thinking I was modelling in 1mm:1ft!

I've started by concentrating on the areas which sit below track level, and especially on the area around the River Irwell. You can see an aerial show of the area as it is now on Google Maps.

View of the River Irwell as it flows under the lines just west of the station. To the right of the river is Victoria Street. To the left, you can see the current state of the road you take to get to the car park which is where the central area of Manchester Exchange station used to be. There is a lot of work to do there yet.

A view of the same area, but taken from the car park road, towards Victoria Street. I've since fixed the rather obvious slope of the wall above the tunnel, I didn't notice it until I saw the photo!

And finally, a view from the car park, down the slope towards the river.

To help show you what I'm aiming for, here are a couple of pictures I took on a visit to the station in April 2009. Both show the Arena which now dominates the station.

Hi Carl

its the first time Ive seen this blog and i will be watching with interest to see how it develops. Victoria has always been one of those what if I won the lottery and had enough room layouts - only in EM to run the stock I have for New Hey!!

I see you are rewheeling the stock to 2mm fs - but keeping the track N. Are you not tempted to go the whole hog or is the time factor dictating the use of proprietary track?

And the other thing of course (well it would be from me wouldnt it) is do you intend exhibiting it wink.gif

Sorry to jump in, but I recall Carl mentioned in the first post using EASITRAC, which is 2mmFS...from my experiences, 2mmFS rewheeled rolling stock and N gauge track is not a happy marriage...especially through the turnouts... :icon_eek:
