Foster Street - Lots to do, and exhibition deadlines looming.

Well the Bank holiday weekend is nearly over, and I have even managed to get a bit of work done on the layout, which is especially good as an exhibition deadline is looming, I cant believe it nearly October, and time for the Warrington event.

Anyway the most urgent job that needed completion on the layout was improving the baseboard alignment, as the layout is in 3 section I had managed to improve the situation on 2 of the 3 sections, but I still had one to do. Well I am glad to report that the final section has been completed and the alignment on the boards is pretty good.

This should make setting up for running a lot easier, especially as the storage yard (when completed) will have 10 loops, so with the alignment sorted, all that remains to be completed is the simple task of finishing the storage yard :(.

Oh and maybe fit point motors in the yard (which gives me more opportunities to show off my soldering god skills) and a couple of motors to fit in the goods yard, but that's not going to be a problem, I mean what's the worst that could happen.

So a good place to start would be the in the storage yard, wrong I decided to do something completely different and started to service the stock, which meant wheel cleaning and fitting of corridor end boards and tail lamps. This revealed not only how dirty the wheels actually get (some almost had a complete tyre of dirt, where as others on the same bogie where spotless??), but also how bad the wheels really were on the older farish coaches, still a few minutes and new replacement wheel sets help the situation (a rough estimation of how many I may need to replace all the wheels to the higher standard, suggests it may be cheaper to move up a scale :).

While I was in the mood I fitted headlamps to my two old Minitrix Ivatts, which look more like active locomotives now they have been weathered, it was while I was looking for headlamps from my secret stash, that I thought I would finally finish of my parcels train for the layout. All I needed to do was to add lamps to the full brakes, weather a couple of Southern CCT's a GWR Syphon and a couple of vans and job compete. This presented me with another problem, why have I got so many Southern CCT's and GWR syphon's I have over a dozen of each (does anyone need any?).

I even managed to splash the first coat of paint onto one of my on-going projects to add a little variety to the trains in operation, but the least said about this the better. So what have a learned from all this activity, apart from I have too much stock (well maybe), I still have no idea what the 10 trains will be, I really should stop taking on new projects but more importantlyI really must get the storage yard sorted.

Until the next time As ever happy modelling :)
