A Big Disappointment

Focalplane

I have been discussing my idea with the authorities and they have indicated that an 0 gauge track does not fit in with the Regional Natural Park rules. Not even if I renovate a dilapidated cabin, rebuild stone walls and plant an orchard, all of which would be acceptable.

So it's back to the drawing board.

I suppose this blog is going to be dormant for a while until I can come up with a new plan.

Default position for civil servants, especially in France, is always to say no. You may have done better not to ask.

I would have more concerns about break-ins and vandalism in such an isolated location.

Yes, I agree with you, but to have the local government (Mairie) break in and vandalize might just be too much to forgive!

Some isolated locations can be so isolated to be a fair risk, but I have been advised that this would not be the case with the authorities.  I used to live in Nissan les Ens

What a shame, here in Germany everything is not allowed unless specifically allowed, the government has banned Google Earth because the data is stored on a server in the USA and if there were Noch models of people sunbathing naked then it would probably get the go-ahead anyway. You could always go on strike.

That's a shame but probably not entirely unexpected. Probably better to know now than have a trip to court with the judge telling you that, in France, a train is for [yada, yada, yada]
