I have made a start on the LMS Folwer 4F kit from Connoisseur Models (Jim McGeown). The kit goes together beautifully, just like his Jinty. My plan is to build the tender first, then the engine's chassis, then the engine's "body". I thought I would save further postings on construction until the tender is ready to prime. One of the things about Jim's kits is the quality of the materials in the box. The etches are excellent in both nickel silver and brass, while the white metal castings are among the best I have seen:
These tender axle boxes are as they came in the box. No fettling needed! Other parts need a little work with a scalpel and fibreglass brush to remove casting ridges but these are minimal. This does make the kit more of a pleasure with very few of the "blue" words of frustration I have been known to utter with other kits.
