Today I received a second hand copy of the LMS Locomotive Profiles - No. 10, the Standard Class 4. Lots of good information here to back up my selected prototype.
But what is in the book isn't necessarily true for the exact time period being modelled and my best source is actually a photo downloaded from rail-online.co.uk:
http://www.rail-online.co.uk/p144309771/h4eaa682#h4eaa682
This shows a number of features including non-fluted coupling rods. It also shows a steam heating pipe hanging from the buffer beam and this is supported by the book which states that the entire 1937 Crewe built batch of locos were fitted with Carriage Warming Apparatus. So these will be added to the model front and back.
The photo also corroborates the shed allocation as 21A while the book shows that the loco was at Saltley in both 1944 and 1960.
Surprisingly there are very few 4Fs pictured in warwickshirerailways.com and none of this particular loco. Being a far from glamorous class it didn't catch the photographers' eyes that often.
