Getting Board (8x4)

What few spare moments I have had recently I have squandered in a slightly different direction. For some time I have wanted a circular test track to help with running in and ironing out problems with couplings, so one sheet of 8x4 ply and some 2x1 and 3x1 I have this;

Yes, a new cat bed! He didn't hand around very long once I got the rip saw going so before long I had this;

A stupidly heavy and not completely stable baseboard! The other reason for doing this is that I recently inherited a whole load of OO stuff from my late Father in Law and I thing everyone wanted to see it being used. So, with the aid of Hornby set track I soon had a double loop with a couple of crossings with an oval of N gauge in the middle (I still have some oo9 from years ago that can now get an airing), and there is also room between the two to add in some 14mm at some stage.

Unfortunately, the cat wasn't the only one who had other ideas!

Apparently the Playmobil are having a railway festival which is only on for a few days so will be cleared away soon........ It will have to be though as really need to erect the layout for a bit of a shake down as haven't touched it since Apedale in May and Peterborough and EXPO NG are getting horribly close.

I have managed to use the 8x4 for it's intended purpose though and have had some wagons running around to test couplings. Only trouble though is that all my locos are too damned slow! This is, of couse a great thing when they are on the layout but a real pain as you wait for them to come around again on what is infact a slightly longer run than on the layout itself. Am just trying to work out how to fit Zam zoodle couplings to something a bit more Hornby like and much faster!

Nice track, though there's some truth in the old proverb 'Never drive a camper van into a Mk 1 coach'.
