North Downs Heritage Railway #1

Pannier Tank Man

Hello everyone below is an image of my first layout design currently named as the North Downs Heritage Railway. (Made with AnyRail)

The layout is a fictional preserved line set in the heart of the North Downs.

The design is relatively simple as i am quite new to the modelling scene.
The scenic part of the layout is 6ft x 3ft (fiddle yards are yet to be decided) and will be DCC controlled on 00 gauge.
Most of the fleet will consist of 0-6-0 tank and diesel locomotives and single/2 car DMUs.

Any tips and constructive criticism is welcome.

EDIT: I will put in a realistic level crossing rather than using the Peco one this one is on the plan for visualizing it.

Looks like a good first plan to me. Always best to start off simple while you get used to the skills. I can't speak about how prototypical it is as I'm not very good at that, but as long as you know what you want and it meets those requirements you should be fine.

I used AnyRail to design my first layout and printed a full size plan off and spent ages pushing trains around to make sure it had operational interest before I laid any track.

I'd question the length of the run-round/passing loop opposite Platform 2 - it's not long enough to do anything with.

Remember too that very few heritage lines have any sort of goods traffic other than photo charters or engineering trains. However the goods siding next to the loco shed could be used to bring in coal for the locos, and the goods shed could be used as a restoration workshop - tatty wagons in and painted ones out!
