And its only taken him a few days to knock them together. Last bank holiday monday when I was at Peters, they were just sketches and photos and ideas in our head..... Just got the South Works building to do now, unless he has finished that one as well!!
Cheers Paul

Hi all
Just a further up date on the work done this week. All the base boards have now been completed at the joinery stage and the track is waiting to be laid on the last two boards leading into the storage yards, but at present we have to wait till wecan erect the whole lot outside to see if it all fits to gether as the unit is just to small to fit it all up in. Had a few boards outside the last few days working on the scenery and have now started the plastering now only problem was it was drying to fast with the heat.
I have all so done some work on the vertical lime kilns and yes I have started the South Works building but it is only the walls cut out in the foam board and is awaiting to have the windows cut out before assembly.

ont cladding has now been completedHi all
Work this weekend has been on the buildings . Have spent hous but there seams little to show for it. But anyway here is what has been done. Mainly to do with the vertical lime kilns and in particular the smoke scubbers at the rear of the main building. Most of this want be seen but I felt that it should be modelled.

I have to say what a fantastic job you done with re-creating the industrial infrastructure around the Peak Forest. I've never visited the Tunstead quarry, but I have seen the one at Peak Dale a few times and you've certainly captured the atmosphere and look of these facilities. I can't wait to see the completed layout!
P.S. Are you going to be modelling the RMC Sentinel shunter? http://chrisperkins.fpic.co.uk/p21230094.html

Hi Montyburns56
Thanks for the compliments I try to please.
Yes we are going to make the models of the shunters. We have got some Knightwing kits and will use them as the basics for the RMC. Do you know what the round tank is shown on your shot. Would appreciate any other shots. We are allso going to model the two ICI shunters thatwhere made at South Works one on the chassis of a steam loco. A couple of shots of this as it is now at the Natioal Stone Museum. The scond one we have not tracked down yet to get some shots.
Dont know if we will do the new shutter yet.
Peter

I'm afraid the picture isn't mine, but I can only presume the tank is something to do with the air brakes. Again these pictures aren't mine but they might be useful.

Hi Peter
Have only just caught up with this one - superb modelling so far. The scale of the buildings and the relief of the land form will make this a unique layout. I can't keep my eyes off the industrial structures you've created!
Nice trackwork too may I say!
Can I ask what 37s you have lined up to run on the layout? Hope you have a wide selection of 37/0's and refurbs! Bachmann's forthcoming 37/5 should serve you well!
I look forward to more updates on your creation.
Alex

Hi Alex
Thanks for your comments
I am not to well up on the engine side after the end of steam. Paul who is the one in charge of the stock is sorting that out but I do have some Bachmanns in green livery and EWS colours but not certain what they our. I know that in modern terms we have Class 20s, 47s, 37s, 58s,59s, 60s,66s, in varoius liveries. Keep watching will be posting some updates on the lime klins in the next day or so as well as the scenery.

I have a small fleet of Bachmann 37s (Mk 1 version), which have been renumbered and painted into appropriate Buxton based locos in Railfreight Red and Railfreight Sector grey/Construction liveries along with some Heljan 47/0s, /4s in RF grey, RF sector Construction/Distribution/Metals examples of which have been seen at Buxton in the late 80s/early 90s sectorisation period. After that have got two IC Mainline 37/4 'Volcano' namers to do plus more 47s, 56s and 60s. Pre and Post privatisation got some locos but need more and got a reasonable set of EWS era liveried locos. As for blue era, got a small fleet of 25s, 40s 37s and 47s that can be used. I need to do some more Transrail/Loadhaul/Mainline Freight liveried locos but now that ViTrains have done some plus the forthcoming 37/7 with flush ends that will sort that out.
Cheers Paul

Hi All
Just a small update this week. have been doing other things (uder pressure from the wife Wendy ) so on the layout little has been done other than some more of the plastering. Most of the work this week has been on the vertical lime klins on the piping. Some shots of this. Can anyone help me. I am looking for a small 6in. mitre block which is either adjustable for the angles or already has angles of 22, 30, 60, etc already cut in. I have the normal standard one with 90 and 45 in but have no means of cutting in other angles. Be glad of any help.
Sorry about the shots being a bit fuzzy camera needs a service , a bit like me.
Peter.

Lovely scrubbers Peter
Not 100% sure of what you'r looking for in the mitre block. Have you tried an adjustable set square to mark out the angles?

I've only just noticed this one. There's some excellent industrial structure modelling here. I like industrial stuff and it's all the better when it's done to such a size. So many layouts have only a tiny part of the industry they're portyraying and they don't convey how immense the real things such as quarry hoppers are, but this does and they're still only bare plastic at the moment.

Hi Dave
Its not the actual marking out that is the problem but the cutting of them. One of the troubles that I have is that i have Arthritis in both my wrists and cutting down square with the saw is hard going for me so I use a X acto mitre block for the cutting of all my girder sections, tubes etc but they only have the 90 45 degrees on them so after I have marked say 35 degree angle with the protractor it is hard to cut it square.

There is the Shenston Road layout of Kier Hardy association with large steel work structures but, amazing as it is, I don't think that is an exhibition layout.
