No we have no small plan of the layout but it is 28ft long by 10 ft 6" wide. The main plan is 28ft long for the track layout but a small plan is something that we most do so that it can be posted. Diesels will be run on the layout, the running period is from steam days to present day. Class 20's, 31's, 37's, 40's, 45's, 47's, 56's, 59's, 60's, 66's and the small industrial shunters and 08's wiil be run.

Paul is in charge of the stock side so he is the best one to tell what is what and when it is running.

Hi all,

Despite the yucky weather outside , Peter and Paul (no Mary!) have finally managed to get all the boards bar one up in the unit workshop today. Here are a few photos of the boards. We also discovered that the alignment of the end corner boards to the the fiddle yard boards is running half inch out. Not bad considering that it has been built individually and this is the first time we have managed to assemble the layout with both corner end boards. That did involve shuffling the layout up by about 2 foot to allow us to build the corner end boards over the existing shop counter.

Hopefully by the end of next week, the main running lines through to the fiddle yard will be laid and wired and then we can try and run a train around for the first time! Watch this space.

Hi Dave,

Hoping to have something running next weekend, but since the unit roof needs repairing (leaking in ) it might be just after that. Plus I need to link all the wires across the board joins for the mainline track feeds and cross my fingers!!!

Hi All

Just back from the unit. The final board is now in place and doweled in place cork down ready for the final track laying tomorrow. Am jut finishing (letting glue dry) the carcass of the control pannel for the fiddle yard. hope tonight to start the wiring up of this before it is fitted to the layout.

Hi All

Well its done . The final length of track has been laid today and GTD has track all the way round. Now after 7 months of work on the layout it is hoped that within the next few days we will have a engine running round. But what will it be An 8F, 9F, Class 60, 66 or a 37 in Green Let me know what it should be. There is still a lot to do now, Finnish the wireing connect the point motors. Finnish the controll panels before a start on the flocking of the layout. But with the track fininshed its is now looking like a layout.

Yes OK but had to alter the mirror image because the crossings on the curve comming into the yard are the opposite way round to the other side. Have used a further 3 way and large y instead of some of the straights. Window on the roof has been done today will be tyding up tomorrow then full steam ahead. When or you down next. How about an openday at the unit 26/27 July so that we can (in Wendys words ) play toy trains. The more the merrier martine , Dave, Neil, Ken and the rest of you.

Just a quick update. Working on the electrics to try and have a engine running around the main line on Sat. but forgot that I had a medical appointment today so have lost some time Never mind working on the fiddle yard control pannel on the dining table at home.See pict, below. Dose any one know if someone makes crash barriers in 4 mm scale. Ta.

I can muster a FLH 66/5 or 66/6 with CAIB PGAs (aka rustbuckets!!) and add 4 HHAs to the rake to sort of represent the early Dowlow-Cottam flow. Until some nice RTR manufacturer does the HIAs then we are a bit stuck.

Hi Chris

Thanks for the comments. It has been built as the new exhibition layout to replace my old Bxworth Sidings layout which was retired some years ago. The only problem is that the one show it was book for has been cancelled so we are on the lookout for some shows to take it to. It is 28ft by 10.5ft wide. if there is anyone out there who would like it just drop us a line. It will now be completed by Oct at the latest this year.

Hi all,

Just a quick update as to what has gone on this last week. I have not been able to complete all the connections on the electrics due to a few problems at home ( leaking roof after the heavy rains) and having the new roof windows done at last at the unit which curtailed me working there for two day (H&S) Any way work now well under way on the electrics. Hope to have it operational by weekend on the main circuit. Have also done some work on the building for the South Works.

Paul and I have decided to hold a open day down at the unit on the Sat. 26th July when all will be welcome. So please come along and see us.

Not sure if you've run the first train, but if you havn't it can only be an 8F.

 

As for the open day date - do you realise it clashes with another event in RMweb land ? Chasewater
