DMU

Well here is the DMU I've been rambling about for the past few days. Finally did some [not much] work on it yesterday, my first 'proper' railway modelling for months!

I admit that a lot of the work had already been done a few months back when I first started working on this, but I did a bit of tidying up of the model last night.

Plans for today are to prime the bufferbeams and try and get the underframe painted, if I can do that I'll be pleased and anything else will be a bonus!

I may attempt to lower it slightly, although not sure if it's really worth it.

Out of interest, I bought a tinlet of the Humbrol Rail Blue acrylic paint to use [as opposed to Railmatch Rail Blue which never works that well for me, and Halfords spray as used on my 31 and 56], has anyone used these Humbol acrylic 'authentic rail colours' before? Do they spray well or should I stick to tried and tested Halfords paint?

Hi Matt

just for your info some points to note on the lima 117

The tumblehome is wrong

the filler on the secondmans side is in the wrong place

the door furniture is too deep and the door bangers are in the wrong place (be wary of this if painting the model in blue and grey.

The front saloon window is too long, this means ALL of the other windows are in the wrong place as are the doors.

The cab front is the wrong shape and the windows too small

the headcode box is too small for a 117 and too big for a 116.

The bogie's although the right wheelbase are underscale.

AFAIK the roof shape is RIGHT! Its the only thing that is!

Depending on the era you might need to add a radiator grill to the sides.

Of course its up to you how far you want to go.

Cheers

Jim

Cheers Mason, I reckon I'll try the Humbrol paint out and respray if I don't like it!

Thanks for the info Jim, not sure that I'll bother making many changes at the mo, my first concern is to get it running a bit smoother, at the mo it runs like a beast!

I'm going to give the Blue/Grey livery a go, although I'm a little concerned with how it will turn out.

I'm using this as a test bed for when I start work detailing and weathering my Cl 101 [and finally being able to give your lamp irons a go!]. If it looks ok then great, if not it can go back in the cupboard where it's been for the last 10 years!

Hi Matt

Are you using DCC? All I do is fit a lenz silver and extra pickups and the lima motor is transformed.

Hi Jim

Nope I don't use DCC - I can barely get the hang of DC!

Well not as much progress as I'd hoped although I did manage to prime the bufferbeams - maybe tomorrow!
