Metcalfe Stone Station - lighting

My Metcalfe stone station is approaching completion. After building the shell I decided that I wanted to fit it and light it, so that's been the last couple of months.

So it went from this:

...to this:

The lighting is Gaugemaster external lamps (GM854 Barley Twist Gas Lamp GWR Stone value pack), and internally DCC Concepts LEDs (proto white colour 3mm LEDs). The internal LEDs have 1kohm resistors in series, the externals are straight through, no resistors needed on the low voltage supply I am using (in fact the externals would not even 'start' with a 1kohm resistor, I assume it was dropping the voltage below start V for the LEDs). End result I am very happy with, I don't think it's too bright though. I need to refit the roof and seal some light gaps and the station can be properly installed.

I think the gaugemaster lights are mini incandescent lamps so for dimming you would be down at much lower resistances.or the little pwm dimmer unit they sell.

Hmmm I think you are probably right :) On the 5V I think they are ok though... I have got some smaller resistors, will give it a try and see if I prefer it. Thanks Dave.

From the mouth of the 'people what made 'em' (thanks Richard of DCC Concepts):

"When I use them I tend to do as you have done and use a low voltage wall plug supply.... 3~6v depending on specific lamps / usage. The lamps are incandescent to give a softer feel to the light. The small PCB assumes modellers will, by habit, use 12v or so as they so often do.... so all resistor values may well be higher than you need @ 5v. There is no need for any resistors unless you really do want to dim them. Either measure or assume around 25mA @ 5v if wanting to calculate resistor values / required volltage drop."

I'm happy enough with them direct at 5V, although when I get the platform lamps up that will maybe change my mind...

I picked up some Metcalfe GWR station seats, and they do look nice, although seem a little fragile.

Only built one at the moment, but it looks OK. The Bachmann pre-painted person looks a bit dodgy when zoomed in though!!
